Seems like every practice report I read has a highlight of his blowing up a run or otherwise making a great play or two. I remember him being quite a player in college...wondering what folks thought his chances of making the team were as I know the LB roster is pretty tight right now?
Also, I presume he's playing ILB...?
Will be a shame if we have to let him go because I can see him being a productive player somewhere else and he'll certainly catch on somewhere.
If it came down to it, not sure I wouldn't go with youth in Lemon over Brooking who's clearly done and becoming a liability. thoughts/comments...?

I think his chances are good considering Carter will not do anything this season and might actually start on PUP.

He's got a great chance to make the roster, along with Cummings. There is no set depth right now at ILB. Carter still has a long way to go on his recovery and even when he gets on the field, it probably won't be for other than ST

The Cowboys have made it clear that Brooking isn't going anywhere. Lemon's best shot at making the team is if Bruce Carter starts the season on PUP and Lemon can beat out Kenwin Cummings, who played better than Lemon in the first preseason game.

Yeah, Lemon and Cummings have been impressive. I'd love to see both make the roster but that's probably not going to happen.

I think Carter will start season on PUP. I have suspecion they might even IR him, if Orie Lemon proves to be real deal, and let Carter heal properly.

But since they have six weeks into season before they need to decide and then 2 weeks to return to field, that would close to November first week, I think, he might be fully back healthy. At that point, he might have a roster spot available.

He's suppose to be ready by Game 1, so PUP is possible. But no way they could put him on IR. They don't let you stash players anymore and that would hinder his development anyway.

Yep, forgot about that, you are right. I think they will find the spot for him. I do think it will not be week one though. No point in trying to get him ready by week one. Let him heal as much as possible, until they are forced and/or when he is absolutely ready to practice etc.

So long as Lee and Brooking are heathly Carter can take his time.

I'd have to go back and watch to make sure, but I don't remember anything to be impressed about Lemon in last week's preseason game.

Cummings had some nice plays, but I did not notice Lemon really doing anything.

Once Carter gets healthy, I wonder if he'll make us forget about bubble guys like Lemon and or Cummings? I know Carter does have the talent.

The reports I read about Lemon always remind me of Ryan Fowler. Not a great athlete, but really hits. I always wanted him to stick, so I suppose I want Lemon to stick as well.

I liked Fowler as well. It seems like every year though there is one or two guys that I just like, regardless of rather they have a real shot of being anything for us or not, an want to see them prove everyone wrong.

That goes all the way back to when we had Wayne McGarity at WR. For whatever reason I just loved that little guy and wanted him to make and prove people wrong so bad.

lol

Yeah, I should have specified that I was referring to training camp overall and not just the first pre-season game. You are right that I didn't notice a whole lot from Lemon in the first game either, but I have heard a great deal about him from staff writers and quotes from coaches...So I'm assuming he's done pretty well.

If we don't keep 2 kickers none of this discussion matters and we can keep them both.

If Olshansky is cut that opens another spot.

He didn't. A couple of good practices and the dude is all world. Beating out a veteran. Can't WAIT until the season starts.

I think you're thinking of The Shanle.

I don't think he's going to beat out the veteran linebackers, but if Lemon does show well, I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas ends up keeping five inside linebackers (James, Brooking, Lee, Cummings and Lemon, if Carter goes on PUP for the first six games).

Of course, if Carter is healthy to start the season, then the fifth spot would come down to Lemon and Cummings, and I give Cummings the edge for now. That's, of course, if Dallas is able to keep a fifth ILB. The Cowboys could keep a fifth OLB instead, but I think it will be four with the final spot coming down to Brandon Williams and Alex Albright. And of course, they could end up heavy at another position and only have room for eight linebackers.

I just want them to keep the best 53 players (and potential does need to be figured into that a little), regardless if it makes us a little shorter on depth at one spot and longer at another. Stocking a position with bodies just because you feel you have to have a certain number is a bad way to build a team IMO.
