This year, the biggest chunk of our "Performance Based Pay" pool will go to Orlando Scandrick, who gets a check for $261,982 -- which is nearly as much as his base salary was for 2008 ($290,000).
Performance Based Pay is actually based on playing time, not performance. For 2008, each team got a pool of $3,257,500 that was divided up between every player who played during the season. The more you played and the less money you made from the team, the bigger your PBP bonus (there's a formula used to determine how much each player gets). Scandrick had a cap number of just $341,250 but played 38 percent of the team's snaps on defense and 66 percent of the team's snaps on special teams for a combined playing-time percentage of 47 percent. That combination of low cap number and relatively high playing time is why he gets the biggest PBP bonus.
Remember, this money is paid by the league and DOES NOT COUNT AGAINST THE CAP. It is in addition to any money the player gets paid by the team.

The biggest bonus in the league goes to San Diego offensive tackle Jeromey Clary, who gets $405,859. The smallest goes to Jacksonville guard Maurice Williams, who gets a whopping $63 for playing two plays. He barely beat St. Louis wide receiver Drew Bennett, who played three plays and gets $68. The fourth-smallest bonus goes to Tom Brady, who played 15 plays and gets $121, slightly more than the $115 Patrick Ramsey gets for his four plays for Denver.
