Twitter: Osa contract details

Only two DT's in the entire NFL had more QB pressures than Osa last year. The Cowboys "only" made him the 15th highest paid DT. The structure of the deal means they saved $19 million by not giving him the franchise tag.

No, Osa is not prime Aaron Donald. But he is a reliable, ascending player and Dallas got him on a very team-friendly deal. We know Osa can play. Who is the 3-tech if he walked? Would we have believed in Dallas to not draft another Trysten Hill or Mazi to replace him?
That's a good question as to who would we get. I honestly don't know but you can't be forced into giving out contracts where guys might be overpaid because you don't have any other options. That's how you end up with bad contracts.

I was against him getting 20 million a year but I’m happy with how it’s structured. So overall I’m excited about the signing. A week ago I wasn’t for it, now I’m excited about it. I still want to draft a DT though.
I totally agree

I agree with you but Osa's contract is actually team friendly. They added two "ghost" years to the end where they can divide up his cap hit should they choose to cut him before he plays all four years. Nothing about Osa's deal should prevent the Cowboys from making future moves to improve the roster, but again that's all up to Jerry and Cap Boy.

They have what, nearly 25 FA’s. As most teams. All teams keep some of their own. They need to fill a roster. This is not pre cap times. When a team can gut their players without salary cap impacts.

They just can’t let them all go, and go sign 25 new players. Many are low to mid level players. And to keep a core group they must sign some of their own.

Now will it be a repeat of last year, lose 15 players, signs 2. We will see.
Usually they keep about half or so of their own, up to last year.
Our model this offseason , if anyone in the Dallas FO was paying attention, should have been Washington. They brought in 6 or 7 new starters on defense and cut bait with the guys not playing up to their contracts. The problem isn't losing players. The important part is who you replace them with and on what terms. Philly does this all the time. They just cut 2 CBs who would be starting for us. Sometimes, you have to get younger and cheaper. Osa is young but we've seen him for 4 years and he makes no difference one way or another.

LOL, what?

Osa is a nice DT. He's not an elite or great DT. I think we are overpaying him.

And even in signing him, he's not a guy that can carry the DL by himself. He needs help in the middle. A focus this offseason should be getting some better DTs in here on top of Osi. He can't be the only "big" acquisition/signing at DT. How is that a controversial stance?
You just don't get it at least a lot of it. Osa is a solid player and they will be adding 2 more dtackles which will probably come from the draft.

They are doing deals. They are spending and are creating cap space to use on other players. The Osa deal is a good one.

Overall the deal is cheap. Every projection was over 20 mil. And while he doesn’t get big sack numbers he is an impactful pass rusher. We need to add another DT in the draft too. Nice thing about this being 4 years, if you get a stud you won’t be paying him big money till this deal is over
Yeah. We need to build a rotation, not just have one or two starter-quality guys, if that. The goal needs to be having several players the quality of Odig or better to mix and match and cause havoc in the center of the defense. That makes your edge rushers better. It makes it tougher on the QB because he can't step into his throws as well. Frees up the linebackers to go make plays. And clogs the interior so more runs have to be bounced laterally.

We've lacked it for years, and still lack the kind of stud you need in the middle, but Osa's contract doesn't prevent us for going after one. It might with this front office, but it shouldn't. If our first-round pick is not a DT (simply because of who is available), our second should be, even if we have to slide around a little to make it happen. (I'm not opposed to trading back slightly in the first if we don't believe that any of the DTs besides Graham is worthy of 12. It depends on who else is at 12, but that would definitely be an option for me.)

6 million dollar cap it vs a could have been 25 that's good!! Now get some more players with the money we just gained from Lamb's restructure and soon to be dak's

What does everyone think, good or bad????
52 million for a JAG. Jerry got fleeced.

LOL so you agree with me. We need to do more at DT.

they have signed one of their own. Nothing else, Homer Pyle

Obviously he makes the DLine better by being back . The depth was paper thin at DT . Now that wouldn’t stop me from drafting a DT round one if it was BAP on the board . The DL & LB plus cornerback are thirsty for talent .
Depends on if that DT is a 3T or a 1T.

The contract's decently priced.....but the biggest considerations are:

1) We are so poor on talent (especially Defense) that we arent in a position to be allowing players of Osa's abilities (good, but not great).
2) Eberflus banged the table for him.

Id take issue with the indiscriminate 'get some more players' .....id revise it to 'get some more players THAT FITS THE SCHEME's and WITH A LOOK TO 2026 AND 2027'.
