Osa Odighizuwa vs Jalen Carter

I remember watching MNF early last year, during the Eagles/Falcons game, and Aikman and Buck had Jason Kelce sit in for a segment. Might have been one of JKs earliest segments as an announcer (and he killed it). I think Aikman asked him what he missed most about the NFL, then asked him what he missed least. For least, he said he didn't miss having to go against Carter in practice everyday, and the look on your face told you he wasn't joking.
Seeing a HOF C with a "heebie jeebie" look on his face just thinking about playing against a guy told me a lot of Carter.

This is interesting. Are we missing something? There is no way we were seeing the same dominance from Osa. Then again, maybe we are, but it's lost behind other defensive issues.

I think the difference is the amount of attention they get. Because of Parsons, Odighizuwa often draws single-blocking. Even though Philly had other pass rushers, Carter is the main player you double on that line.

I'd have to see the double-team numbers to know for sure, but my belief is that Carter still gets similar pressure to Odighizuwa despite being doubled more often than him. If Osa was a disruptive force who destroyed single-blocking every time an offense used it against him, that would change him from a good 3-tech to a great 3-tech and the kind you need in this scheme.

I'm glad the the Cowboys play the Eagles the first game to put all this to bed. One game doesn't determine a season, but it can stop certain narratives or substantiate them.

they talk about Micah and those guys being the highest paid defenders, wait until he gets paid, I KNOW he's going to pass them, unless he ends up having issues on and off the field
Carter is bigger and younger than Osa. And he’s going to be well compensated. Already AP 2nd Team All-Pro. I don’t think he’s going to get paid more than Micah is about to be, though.

if he keeps up at this rate he just may

Carter was a beast at the end of the season. Osa was disruptive and becoming a force. Osa was a rotational player who started to get more snaps. He has potential to have a really good year. Like Parsons though he needs players around to step up and play solid. Carter had the benefit of a great team around him.

Carter is arguably the best DT in the game and Osa is overpaid. No he isn’t downright awful, but TWENTY million a year?

Rather have two 10m type DTs than him….and I fully knew between that contract and the first rounder for Mazi, they would consider the position fixed. We already know that’s not enough.

Better hope him finally showing up later last year was more about the light finally going on than chasing the bag.
