Al Zahwari has been running the show for some time, but Bin Laden was the figure head and will now be a martyr.

No doubt he was going to be seen as a martyr before he hit the ground, no matter the cause of death. To be honest, I'm not so sure that Bin Laden didn't have his location leaked on purpose. If one thinks about it, his health has been questionable for some time. Why not set up your own death at the hands of the enemy? By doing that, you are guaranteed to be a martyr too all radicals. You would also ensure that many "friends" of the cause will pour in more money and that recruitment should also rise following the news. Kinda sounds like something out of a Tom Clancy novel, but it is something that is plausible.

Bin Laden's sporadic releases of video or audio is what kept their willingness to continue alive.

I doubt he intentionally gave up. Not right now. With troop withdrawal on the horizon, he would have been better served waiting until then. Additionally, he would have been served by withering away so he could have spun it into some rhetoric about being protected from above.

Maybe in the immediate this will rile some support but I believe it will ultimately die down.
