THIS IS JUST A JOKE

Neighbor charged with shooting teen who walked on his grass

BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) -- A man who neighbors say was devoted to his meticulously kept lawn was charged with murder in the shooting of a 15-year-old boy who apparently walked across his yard.

Charles Martin called 911 on Sunday afternoon, saying calmly: "I just killed a kid."

Police, who released the call's contents, said Martin also told the dispatcher: "I've been harassed by him and his parents for five years. Today just blew it up."

Larry Mugrage, whose family lived next door, was shot in the chest with a shotgun. The high school freshman was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Martin, 66, allegedly told police he had several times had problems with neighbors walking on his lawn. He remained jailed without bond Monday. His jailers said no attorney was listed for him.

Neighbors said Martin lived alone quietly, often sitting in front of his one-story home with its neat lawn, well-trimmed shrubbery and flag pole with U.S. and Navy flags flying.

Joanne Ritchie, 46, said Mugrage was known as "a good kid." She said she always also considered Martin to be friendly.

Union Township is near Batavia, about 20 miles east of Cincinnati, Ohio.

yeah, i am all for the right to bear arms and I am a gun owner myself, but I have always felt that the background checks and restrictions have been to lenient.

I actually bought a new revolver last week and I laughed as I filled out the paperwork because I could have easily lied and left the store within 20 mins of entering with my gun even if I had evil intentions. Hell, they probably still would have given it to me here in Texas...the guy was so damn excited that I was buying a gun, it was almost disturbing.

I would not want someone like my brother owning a gun. God knows I love him, he is so damn accident prone. He would kill himself or someone else by accident and it scares me that he can go out and get a gun no problem.

Just a few months ago, he came into my apartment with his girlfriend, picked up a shotgun that I had not put up yet after its cleaning, aimed at his girlfriend and pulled the damn trigger without checking the bore to see if it was loaded.....she would have been blown almost in half if I had kept it loaded.

Sad stuff.

Seen this on the news this morning, I too thought of CBZ and all of us with the lawn joke on the site.

But man that is terrible.

he must have got pretty close to the kid, right ? i mean using a shotgun from a distance probably would not have killed him.

i've never owned a gun. dont think i could pull the trigger on someone and i figure if i ever pulled a gun on someone just for effect or to scare them off, well they migt have one too and pull theirs and shoot me.

What a piece of @#$%.

I would love to see his lawn now.
I know if something like this happened here when I was younger, that guy's lawn would be covered in all sorts of unspeakable debris.

Nice of him to fly those flags. What a patriot.

Sad thing, I agree gun purchases should be made tougher, and have stricter regulations. But then that would just lead some to the black market/dark alley to get their guns.

Besides CBz uses bean bags in his shotgun.

With the right load, he could have put just about every single pellet in the kid from the front porch to the sidewalk.
