I'm a pseudo IT person. I know just enough to be dangerous. :)

As for memory, I know it's cheap, just have different priorities right now. One way to get around selecting memory is go to bestbuy.com. They allow you to put in your computer specs, so you know what to ask for before you go in or if you choose to order it online.

I bought a bare bones laptop 4 years ago, so while it had good specs at the time, I've loaded a number of ram-intensive applications since then. So I need more memory for it to run a max performance.

You can also go to www.kingston.com and look it up. You can order online also and they give you several different vendors too choose from.

Hey, me too... :D

Hey, I didn't know that... that would be VERY helpful for the less than expert computer owner... I have wondered in the past how many people have gone out and bought memory, brought it home and found out that it was not compatible with their system... I've also wondered why there's a need for so many different kinds of RAM, why there couldn't be more of an industry standard... a few choices would make sense, dozens of them does not...

When I got this PC, it had 1MB of RAM, and I was the envy of all my friends... that was less than six years ago, now that's considered to be the bare minimum you want to start with...

Planned obsolescence is the watchword of the computer industry, LOL...

For brand names, I have come to prefer the Corsair line of computer chips... but Kingston makes a good chip, too...
