there is a good chance both Tackles may never play again,if we want a great offense we need backup plans,we dont need to draft a OT in the 1st RD to make it happen.

That's why I have been pushing for Alex Leatherwood as the 1st round pick.

Dave Helman speculating that is not in anyway a more reliable source than the acting GM. There are no reports on this at all other than a poster on the forum hearing Helman speculate and making a thread about it. As of right now I’m operating under the impression he’ll be back as that’s what is being said. If that changes, then OT immediately becomes a top 3 need and those lineman make sense. Until that becomes the fact though I think we should mock under the current facts to be most accurate.

Tyron is 100% coming back the question is if he remains healthy for a whole season. Do you draft a guy in the first who may be a backup all season? With a starting CB or LB on the board?

McCoy also still has Dallas in his social media bios. There was basically a gentleman’s agreement last offseason when he got hurt and cut that he would be resigned if he was able to come back healthy. I assume he’s recovered to the point where Stephen feels comfortable saying he’ll be back.

If he can be effective in run snaps and rotate with Hill and Gallimore then I think I’m pretty ok with our 3T’s. Woods has another RFA tender so he’ll have to be back. We basically just need one or two real run stopping 1T’s and we have significantly upgraded the DT play.

One of the silver linings here to this crap season was that we had a lot of guys get experience playing along the OL and we got some insights into who can play and who can't. McGovern looks like he might have a future. Between Knight and Steele, you probably have two guys that can absolutely be swing tackles. Biadasz looks like he can be, at the very worst, a competent OC.

Draft an OT, for example, with one of your two 3rd round picks and I think what you have is the makings of a really good OL. Sure, a lot will depend on Smith and Collins, but if only one is back and can play, I still think OL isn't as terrible as people claim.

I saw one mock that had us going defense with the first two picks and then we grabbed Eichenberg in the 3rd at OT (I suspect he goes before that). That would be fine with me.

I'm not against drafting OL, just feel defense needs to be addressed or it doesn't matter what happens on offense.

I have stated this myself BUT realizing two issues the best OL is Sewell and he will be gone at 10 in my view I like Leatherwood because he has played OG and OT very durable an can float
if needed HOWEVER my thinking is at 10 is really too high for him. Clue me in if I'm wrong.

Fans are so used to having awful safety play and awful DT play, that even a mediocre player at either position seems like a good starter.

No, 1 tech is. Because our D is simply not going to come together until we get one that can both hold the middle and collapse the pocket. That's how you make a D go.
