I used to see him around Augusta all the time. He was a wild dude, to be sure, but he did a lot of good for the community. He'd give out turkeys and Christmas presents and stuff.

The band I was in played Strom Thurmond's son Strom Jr's wedding nearby in Aiken, and he was supposed to join us onstage. We practiced a bunch of his stuff but he never showed. I will always be sad thinking that I could have shared the stage with a legend and missed out.

Rest in peace, James.

Back when I was working construction there was a guy on our crew named Ollie. Crazy son of a gun. As most of you know construction starts work very early in the day. Ollie would show up every day dragging because he was quite the partier. He loved to drink.

Every day he'd have his cigarette and some coffee to get his heart pumping and as the coffee would start to kick in he'd start dancing and singing James Brown's "I Feel Good."

Once in a while he'd show up cigarette dangling from his mouth, tall cup of joe in his hand and one of us would put that CD on the boom box and turn it up loud.

Man Ollie would put on a show. Taking long drags from his cigarette and big swallows of coffee and screaming (off tune) along with James Brown that famous line, "I feel good, I knew that i would now. So good, so good. Owwwwwww."

It was always one of my favorite memories. Very sad news. I think I'll call Ollie today.

R.I.P. James Brown, you're a big part of one of my best memories.
