OTA Notes week 2

All receivers have some drops but drops haven’t been a big issue for CeeDee or he wouldn’t have received a huge extension. Schoon doesn’t have TE2 locked down. If he were to have a poor camp and somone steps up he could be replaced. He hasn’t been near good enough to have TE2 secure. With a new staff there’s going to be heavy competition.
Agree that Schoon has nothing locked down. They have been really hyping Spann-Ford although they likely keep Ferguson, Schoon, and Spann-Ford. If Ferguson doesn't produce, he probably doesn't get a new deal in Dallas.

Ferguson would have to really produce to see a second contract. The odds aren’t in his favor unless he accepts a team friendly deal.

That's Cowboys MO at TE since Witten. And probably why we draft or sign udfa every year there constant flow.

Schoon is not going anywhere.

Not worried about Ceedee, he’s an established player. It’s not like he’s battling for a job. Schoon on the other hand hasn’t lived up to his 2nd round draft status and isn’t a lock to make the team. Highly unlikely he sees a second contract.

That was such a dumb pick! Unathletic stiff.

He dropped one. CeeDee dropped one.

So why are you cracking on Schoon?
I already explained it in another post. Schoon isn’t even remotely close to CeeDee’s level as a player. CeeDee is an established star who just signed a massive contract prior to last season. His spot on the team couldn’t be more secure. A drop isn’t going to have the coaches looking at him sideways. Schoon can’t afford drops even in OTA’s. If he doesn’t take a big step up this season he’ll either be allowed to walk when his rookie deal is up or he could possibly be realeased beforehand.

Bookmarked. Because he will be on the 53.

Put the personal dislike aside and see how he improved last year and produced when needed.
Where did I say he wouldn’t on the team? There’s not one post on this board where I said he wouldn’t be on the 53. I simply said he wasn’t a lock. I even stated in another post he’ll likely be on the team. I have no personal dislike for him. He just hasn’t lived up to his draft status. We’re not strong at TE and need depth in case Ferguson gets injured again so that will likely keep him in the fold. Schoon would have to have a poor camp not to make the 53 and that’s always possible especially if one of the TE’s has a great camp.

So OTA”s don’t mean a thing?
The hell they don’t, they absolutely mean a lot.

They instill some basic philosophy of the offense and defense.
They get ideas on how the players grasp the schemes.
What condition they are in. So they can put together a TC plan.

They get the players prepared for TC, so they have an understanding of what to expect, so they can get right to work and start preparing.
