At long last, the final installment in my position by position look at the Cowboys and the draft... this is a new series for me this year, but I think it has been helpful to me, it has crystallized my thinking as to what positions I might target in what round...

The last position to be considered is offensive tackle, a position where the Boys are set with their starters-- Tyron Smith at LT, Doug Free at RT... the Boys seem to like their top backup at OT, Jermey Parnell, though he hasn't had much of a chance to show us why they like him...

So I don't see OT as being a high draft priority this offseason... at the same time, there's literally nothing behind Smith, Free and Parnell, and a team needs more than 3 tackles... clearly, a little added help in the draft (or after) would be in order...

The highest rated tackle I have on my board is Bobby Massie from Mississippi, who is climbing draft charts in recent days, and now looks like a solid 2nd rounder... that is, IMO, too high for the Boys to draft a tackle, those high picks should be used in areas of greater need...

I'd wait until rather late in the draft before I'd consider drafting a tackle, at which point you'd be looking at Tom Compton from South Dakota (a likely 6th rounder) or Donald Stephenson from Oklahoma, a 6th or 7th rounder and a personal favorite... in the 7th round, prospects include Levy Adcock from Oklahoma State (who is falling down draft boards these days, at the start of the season he was considered a first or second rounder) or Jeff Adams from Columbia...

Then after the draft, you could work from a list of tackles that includes Bradley Sowell, Massey's teammate at Mississippi, James Carmon from Mississippi State, Grant Freeman from Arkansas, Dan Hoch from Missouri, Joe Long from Wayne State, David Pickard from Southern Illinois or Andrew McDonald from Indiana... that's 6 out of 7 players who played in big-time programs, and one sleeper from a small school... I'm betting there's one or two NFL-caliber tackles in that group, the task is to identify and sign them...

Even with the lack of depth at OT, I don't think I'd draft one, I think I'd sign one or two of the likely UDRFAs... that said, I do really like Stephenson, and wouldn't squawk if the Boys drafted him in the 6th or 7th...
