OU ranked #1 in coaches poll

University of Texas fans must hate this poll. Sitting at No. 24 while both OU and the Aggies are rated in the Top 10, and to top it off another Big 12 school in the top 10.

Actually, they should feel pretty good. Texas in ranked 24th on program prestige and nothing else. How many 5-7 teams have EVER been ranked to start the following season?

They asked Mac about the rating this weekend, he stated that whomever put them at 24 must not have watched them last season...

But, he said he's happy about the ranking because if they do somehow put together a good season, it's almost impossible to climb into BCS contention starting the year unranked...

Texas had a good recruiting class and hopefully are better than last year's debacle...

OU and A&M are clearly the cream of the crop in the Big 12 going in to this season...

I would say OSU looks to be pretty strong as well in the Big 12 Minus 2. :laugh2:

I think Texas is ranked too high! I hate the preseason polls! They should not have any polls until about week 3! There are too many unknowns with incoming freshmen and starting line ups for that matter! Let's get this thing started!

I think a lot hinges on the QB. The dropoff from Colt to Gilbert was huge last year.

Texas still has a solid defense, its just hard to compete in the Big 12 if you cannot put points on the board. Going from 40 to 24 points per game on offense will kill any team.

As for TAMU, happy to get noticed but I don't expect it to last. OU is the only big road game, but OSU and Missouri will give us problems at home. We lost two key guys in the middle of our defense plus Miller, so our offense will need to be hitting it hard and limiting turnovers.

As long as we allow Gilbert Grape to play, we are going to be a waste of a Saturday afternoon. I have never seen such a horrid offense in all of my years watching the Horns....they couldn't run, they couldn't pass, they couldn't catch....all they could do with any efficiency was turn the ball over or go 3 and out.

Now I will say this....DT Kheeston Rhandall, LB Keenan Robinson, LB Emmanuel Acho and S Blake Gideon are 4 players I am looking forward to watching this year. All 4 should be in the 2012 draft.....even if Jerry never seems to draft Longhorns.

As far as OU being #1....I guess they have enough returning starters and depth to earn the ranking. It is hard to put Auburn, Bama, and Oregon at the top with the players they lost to the NFL and graduation. Oklahoma makes a lot of sense, as much as it disgusts me to say.

I do have an issue with the Aggies being ranked so high. One good season in the last several years and now they are a preseason top 10? I am going to stick my neck out and say that they do not finish the season in the top 25, unless they beat Texas on Turkey Day.

talk about a changing of the guard.....the U has been down for a while, but the rest have been near the top for the last several preseason polls.
