Do you even REALIZE how much money is involved?

Wish in one hand and crap in the other my grandpa always said. Until it goes to a playoff, Im watching the game and just dealing w/ the system in place.

Unfortantely I don't see a play for at least another 5 years or so.

It is what it is.

Yeah its about 140m but they could utilize a playoff and still get the money. The problem isn't that the money can't be collected, the problem is that out of the 140 the 6 AQ conferences get 120m and the rest of the money gets filtered out the rest of the non AQ conferences. The big 6 do not want that to change.

140 million w/ all of the TV contracts in place for the Bowls? I believe it's a lot more than that.

Im so tired of how we can change it all around for poor ole BSU. Im just dealing w/ today and the system in place right now.

There are 100 diff formulas on the interweb regarding a playoff system.

Who said anything about changing it around for BSU? Everyone agrees that the system is broke, just because it favors your school is no reason to ignore that a problem exists.

They crazy thing is...the bcs has FINALLY blown up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There won't be a big name school in the title game :D :D Unless the top three teams lose that is.....

BSC people are probably sweating and hoping tcu, bsu, oregon lose :laugh2:

Oregon is going to be #1 this week and Auburn should move up to #2. Auburn will move up at least one spot in both the Harris and coaches poll and may jump TCU to be a solid #3. In the computer polls they should be a near consensus #1 since the current #1 (OU) and #2 (LSU) lost this week. Michigan State will be top 5 and might jump TCU thanks to the computers. Look for Mizzou to be #6.

Traditional powers may not be in the top 5 at the moment, but Auburn, Oregon, Mizzou and Michigan State are still top programs and will be put in the NC game before Boise State or TCU.

with that said, here is next week's schedule:
Oregon @ USC
Auburn @ Ole Miss
Mich St @ Iowa
Mizzou @ Nebraska

I know you don't want to hear it, but BSU has risen to the challenge against any opponent they have played...

Oklahoma? Check
TCU? Check

Until they lose in an assigned bowl game, they have a case...

They were talking about that during the Hawaii USU game today. Having the 8 champions from each conference playing in a playoff and using the 4 major bowls for the for semi-finals and the finals. Using the other 37 bowls the same way they do now, for the rest of the teams. I wouldn't have an issue with that, but somehow I don't see the large conferences signing off on it.

The BCS ranking system would determine who you played in the playoff. It would be easy to implement and only add 3 games to determine the champion.

I would accept ANY playoff over what we have now. One huge thing about college ball is 1 loss and you're season is over. What other sport is like that?! Of course it still could be depending on how many teams they have in a playoff or how they choose who's in it. Keep the rankings they have now and picking the top 8, 1 loss teams could redeem themselves.

I agree with that too, a one loss team should not be out of it because of a computer ranking, if they win their conference, they should have a shot at the championship. Going to some kind of a playoff is the only way to take the opinion out of the NC game.

Oh Im all for a playoff system. I don't like the BCS at all but it is what it is. I fought this battle 3 years ago and went all playoff crazy researching and trying to formulate a fun playoff system.

Then I saw how much money was involved and the traditios w/ the bowl and such and all of the BIGTIME AD's and what they said and I said to myself..

It aint happenin...

I just don't see it happening in the near future at all.

I don't like the idea of taking the 8 conference champs because that gives way too high a chance for a crappy team taking the spot of a really good team who happened not to win its conference (plus as much as some people hate to hear it, you really need to have Notre Dame in the mix). They should just take the BCS top 8. No at-larges or anything like that. First round plays around mid-December. New Year's Day for the Football Final 4 (nice to meaningful games on New Year's Day again). Then a week later the Championship.

Let the firings being I say. I just don't know how you push it through to the boards to replace these fogies w/ young bloods who will get together and bring in a proper fair playoff system.

Tradition is like religion to some of these schools pumping the BCS way.

People have been pushing for a playoff system since before I was born. It would literally take an act of congress to get one started.

Only if they are undefeated. I think all those teams are going to lose a game by the end of the season.

I know it borders on politics, but we allow our state school presidents to deem what they do... and they can...

What's up with that?

They work for us...

And if Alabama and Ohio State run the table from here they will move ahead of Boise and TCU.

I agree, but I think an act of Congress could be reasonably plausible. Not a formal act, but more like using the bully pulpit to force action. The people who say the current format is pretty darn close to violating antitrust laws have a legitimate point. I wouldn't be surprised if sometime in the next 5 years, someone with some real power in DC tells the BCS "either get your act together or we're going to do it for you." That would scare the BCS into submission real fast.
