Ouch. Maybe NFL players ARE underpaid

Wasn't Ted Johnson the linebacker who played with concusions dispite doctors saying it wasn't wise? I feel sorry for the sap

That's a good article. Professional football is the most brutal team sport in the world. Hopefully, science can continue to better equip the players and protect them from long-term physical and psychological damage.

Don't let anyone kid you: Football is a blood sport. It just takes a bit longer for the effects to show.

I was going to say Boxing is pretty brutal even tho it is not a team sport. But at least they go weeks or month between fights. Football players hit every week over and over again.

I have a constant ringing in my ears because of past concussions. I've gotten used to it over the years, but now and then it still annoys me. I've known a few players who started getting migraines and other issues after all the hits. The worst ones are the High School ones because the equipment is usually not so good. The hits are more vicious as you move up the quality ladder but the equipment saves you now and then.

Lucky I do not have that issue I have had several concussion as a kid and playing Lacrosse (I played club level).

What is coming back to on me and I knew it would is the old knees start to ache with the extra weight and all I put them threw; between skate boarding; lacrosse (college and old man league) pickup basketball games twice a week for years at lunch + in college; to weekly volleyball games; martial arts and not to mention the Military jumping in and out of high up vehicles carrying rucks and other heavy equipment

Growing up out West I never played LaCrosse, but man does it ever look fun.

I don't care how good they make the helmets, the brain is still going to slush around and bang against the inside of the skulls when someone gets hit.

:hammer:

That is why now amount of equipment is going to stop this type of injury. the protection is needed inside the cranium. All a helmet does is prevent the external contusion and bleeding.

I think the NFL does the best they can do to prevent major injury but they can only do so much. I think players know the danger of the sport and are well compensated for playing it. Heck there are more commercial fisherman who are killed each year and get a lot less cash for doing their job.
