Right now we have 9 or 10 picks, depending if 3 or 4 comp picks.
We have around 25 to 30 FA's, some which are RFA's. We typical sign about half of our own. To fill those gaps. As well they will sign 4 to 8 mid tier FA's to fill voids, the create the draft board from that.

The scouting department starts putting the draft board long before any players are signed. They make cross some off the board after players are signed if they believe they won't be as good or better that what they have. The Cowboys still have always been a take the best player available of any position that's considered a need or just to good to pass on over strictly for a designated position for any given round.

Don't shake your head too much, you brains will be more rattled.
did you look at the links I posted, as it is usually correct. Also a few on here been predicting them as well for years and have been correct.

There is an article on that site that mentions AdamJT13 as to where they use info from him and his formula. He was posting on here for years about comp picks and WAS correct. Before this over the cap site started posting it as well based off of his work.

So go ahead and shake your head all you want.

This user very well may have his work used by these different sites but they are not official so forgive me if I choose to wait for the the league to make OFFICIAL comp picks public. It wouldn't be the first time some unofficial site has been wrong on something that's officially been made..

Someone want to explain why we have the 44th pick and not the 42nd pick, which is the 10th pick in the 2nd round?

Teams with the same record alternate each round for draft order. Lowest strength of schedule gets first position in round 1. All pick orders are designed to distribute aggregate equity as evenly as possible.

So Dallas, NYG and SF (all 6-10) basically alternate position each round. Since there are 3 teams, the order repeats every 3 rounds.

Dallas has the lowest SOS, yielding them first position pick (pick 10) in round 1. They have the third position pick in round 2 (pick 44) and the second position pick of round 3 (pick 75).

The Giants, who have the second lowest SOS get the second position pick of round 1 (pick 11), the first position pick of round 2 (pick 42) and the third position in round 3 (pick 76).

The 9ers, also a 6-10 team, get the third position pick in round 1 (pick #12), second position in round 2 (pick 43) and first position in round 3 (pick 74) Their round 3 pick belongs to WFT.

First 3 rounds summary (Picks) for 6-10 teams
Cowboys 10, 44, 75 ......
Giants 11, 42, 76 .......
9ers 12, 43, 74 ......

Notice- they all have the same position equity total of 129.

Also notice that the 9ers pick ahead of us in 2 of the first 3 rounds even though we pick ahead of them in round 1.

I think you would be surprise by how many people don't actually believe things until they are official. There are some that may see things that they may like or hope for but don't actually believe them as real until they are official.

Comps are announced at the annual NFL meeting.

Late March is the normal time for that get together, but who knows.
