Seriously, watching our D it is not even like a 3-4 D, in truth. We're basically playing a 4-3 where we rush 3 guys who are no good at rushing the passer (Spears, Canty, Ferguson) and 1 guys who is good (Ware). Before, sometimes we would rush Ellis, but still. A 3-4 is effective when you hide your blitzes. Every time we blitz, we show it too early and then we just blitz right up the middle where the O-Line can just collapse in and block 7 or 8 guys with only 5 bodies.
In my opinion, if we switched back to 4-3, used Ferguson, Canty, Spears, and Ratliff as the DTs, and used Ware, Ellis, Hatcher, and another draft pick as our ends, we would be a much more potent pass rushing team. We would have to do something with all the linebackers we have, but most of them aren't contributing a great deal anyway. I could see our linebackers being Burnett at weakside, Carpenter at strongside, and Ayodele in the middle, with James backing up Ayodele.
It's not going to happen as long as Parcells is here, and I wouldn't even be unhappy if we just had a good defensive coordinator, but we don't.
