Lighten up , Francis.................it's not an issue until someone makes it one. I'm sure folks are more than capable of picking and choosing their own battles. BTW, O defender of the common folk, how do you know they'll even read this?

Yeah, I'm sure in an environment where people make fun of gay folks that a gay person is going to stand up and say "hey I'm gay and that is offensive" -- sure. that's going to happen all the time.

It is something that will be offensive to many people.

As I noted, I expect that there are likely a good number of gay folks on this board. Would you appreciate if something about you -- e.g., your race, your family background, your religion -- were used as a joke?

It is important to respect people. All people.

There are very few people on this board that I do not respect. (1 maybe 2) Even then, I (for the most part) just avoid speaking to or envolving myself with those people unless they speak directly to me.

As I said, if that offeneded; then they need to get a thicker skin. Being sensitive to generalized mundane humor is a sign of weakness. It's a dog eat dog world out there and it would suck to be a weakling. :p:

Why are *some things* ok to make fun of and others not?

You do realize that what you choose to make fun may be exactly what others do not think it is ok to make fun of.

Well, mainly because of folks like yourself.

It isn't about respecting an individual - hate on Superpunk or Summerisfunner all you want -- but when you disrespect a GROUP of people without any knowledge of them as individuals it is problematic.

No, I didn't. Extreme sensitivity will not be tolerated. :whip:

I'm sure an adult that found this offensive would immediately find this the best place to come out of the closet. Brilliant. Let us not embellish in a soap opera fashion to make a point. By the way, I like how in your first post you made it clear you were not gay........Kinda like there's something wrong with that. Now there's an issue you could sink your teeth into.

There is nothing wrong with it -- but I wanted to make it clear that I was not representing gay people

So it is OK to make a joke about Black people if none are around?

How about Jews? You think it is fine to do a silly stereotyped impression so long and there aren't any Jewish people around?

That's pretty much the same argument. And it doesn't hold water.

Gay: Nowhere does it say "A group of individuals". It is primarily used as an adjective which is exactly the way I used it. The dictionary says it can be used as a noun, but that is not actually correct. It is used to discribe a person which makes it an adjective, not a noun. i.e, "gay man".

Next subject, this is no longer gay in the sense of - "full of light-heartedness and merriment."

Friends, jesters and the know-it-all rabble, in all the hoopla and huzzahs over our QB, RBs, receivers and Jerra jones, the man who will have the biggest impact defensively will be Mat McBriar, punter extraordinaire with a 48-yard average last year.

This guy is guaranteed to keep the offenses on their heels from within the 30. Bright, tough and big, he consistently booms them out of the end zone.

Rah-hoo! This boy will keep our defenses ripping them up deep in their territory. Best paid footman in tbe NFL and worth every penny.

For you who think Ware or Newman or whoever can have more of a defensive impact, just remember that McBriar will give the opposing teams the most negative yardage this year.

:D

I got side tracked with all this "happy" rubbish. I forgot to say I like the schtick GTB. May not necessarily agree but I think at the very least, you've got style. Love the intro, reminds me of the old fashioned radio broadcasts that were all scratchy and had no stereo qualities what-so-ever.

To argue that "gay" doesn't refer as a whole to gay people is just crazy talk radio logic.

And you know you weren't using it as "light-hearted"

Wow another thread where only 1 or 2 posts are about the subject. :laugh2: those are always the best.

What was the original post about anyway? Oh yeah, McBriar, he's good. One of the best punters in the league.

also, I'm not gay, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Who are you to decided how I used it? I didn't see a direct attack on anyone or any group of people. I specifically directed my statement on the thread itself.

I will not dignify this with an answer. Moronic.

BTW, I'm offended by black. I prefer African American. Do not use "Jews". It's Jew-ISH. Don't continue to make a fool lf yourself by using derogatory slang when you are defending such.

For the record when I do have a laugh at someones expense it's never stereo-typed and I can prove it.

I laugh at your posts pretty consistently and I have no idea who or what you are. :D

Please -- you are a step away from the "it isn't offensive because I didn't mean it to be offensive" argument. That holds about as much water as the "I call them N-words because they call each other that all the time" argument.

As a JEW I can tell you that Jews is not an offensive term in the least. Jews, Jew, Jewish people -- none of those are offensive terms.

See, now you are becoming offensive.
