I think people we be surprised in FA this year—we will sign few players, and those we do will be lesser known. No B. Carr moves this year.

where did this come from? I keep reading on the ESPNDallas site that we are projected as 20mil over and will need to re-structure and/or cut guys to get under. I am not claiming they are right, I hope this info is.

That is 7m over without any holds and minus any cap penalties for not being at 53. The 13 or so penalties for having a 40 man roster equal another ~4m. But truth is we signed a bunch of guys already to minimums and futures contracts. So that 4m is probably just actual contracts.

We have like 16 players who are eligible for qualifying offers.
1 of which is Anthony Spencer.

We move to 25m over easily if we keep Spencer's rights and say Sterling Moore plus Ernie Sims.

But that money is easily eaten by cutting Free, Miles and restructuring Romo, Carr.

We could get to ~7m under the cap if those cuts above are post June 2nd. But that 7m will need to pay for the draft class which costs about half that number.

We probably have around 4m to play with which is far less than we usually keep into the season.

So you probably see some not widely discussed moves like cutting Connor which saves another 3m. And in exchange we can make a budget signing or two with low year 1 cap hits.

the number above is 7 mil under, not over. Jax is not 25 mil OVER the cap

Then the total is simply inaccurate. The Cowboys have 80m tied up in 6 players for 2013. Perhaps that number was just salaries and not cap hits. Salaries plus holds plus cap penalty of 5m would get you to about 113m

http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4702192/cowboys-face-tough-cap-situation-in-2013

i believe however the 132m figure archer uses includes the franchise cost on spencer even tho he indicates keeping spencer will be tough.
but we dont get his math presented to be sure.

maybe we will get an update from adamjt with real nfl math applied soon.

what i can assure you is we are definitely tight against the cap. i can assure you this because it came from stephen jones' mouth.

Espn ? Dude get over them they are terrible .

My estimate is 12.59 available.

The cost of drafts picks would come out of that number.

This includes:
Franchising Spencer
Cutting Spears, Connor and Free
Losing Free Agents Jenkins, Jones, Coleman and Dockery.
Signing Romo to a new contract.
Restructuring 7 contracts.
Allowing a 10% increase in the cap hits for the bottom 1/2 of the roster.

The primary difference between 2012 and 2013 is the dead-money.
2012 dead-money = 29.77M

2013 dead-money (as of today) = 2M

There is a net gain of 4M compared to 2012 for cutting the above mentioned players.

The way i read it is we have 7m left on 2012 that we can carry forward to 2013.....................

I think that's right. Obviously all teams are at or under the cap right now. Which is what this is. This is not a projection for next year.

Any cap numbers you read on here are bogus unless it comes from Adam. Don't know how he does it, but he's pretty accurate.

I didn't include any carryover in my estimate.
