I have been watching last years Charger defense. One thing I see in each game is that the corners are left on an island. The pressure defense takes chances with a safety that they will get to the QB by blitzing.

While I like the style - I worry our corners are not up to the task that face them. What do you think?

I agree and it's why I said that even Newman is going to get bashed at times this year. Better get ready for it.

But... The last time we blitzed more than almost any team in the league and played lots of zero coverage, Newman and even Mario Edwards did just fine. Maybe better than fine. So there's no saying that Newman and Henry can't do it.

One thing is for sure -- our corners are better than what Wade had at SD.

If Newman and Henry play zone, we are not playing to their strengths.

I think our corners will do good, I think Newman can hold his own and Henry could have Hamlin to help him cover the deep ball.

Our corners seem to always be left on an island whether by design or error.

The thing about that 03 season is we didnt really play well against good teams. We played a ton of inferior offensive players for instance, jeff blake, doug johnson, palmer, ramsey without their starting tailbacks,

The games we lost were against teams that could play offense, carolina, philly, miami and even new orleans who only made one play the whole game which was a blown coverage by woodson on a blitz.

Now look at this years schedule.

Manning-shockey, burress, smith and toomer.
Brady-Do I need to list their weapons!
Pennington-good supporting cast
favre-another good supporting cast
cambell-portis, betts, moss, randle el another good supporting cast.
mcnabb-good supporting cast, maybe the next best to new england
kitna-williams, rogers, jones and bell
grossman-another good cast. no one great, muhammed was great, but now a notch below that.
losman-evans, lynch, price, reed

anyway you get the point. Outside of minnesota I dont think we play a team with a bad offense. Teams are going to score on us this year. Alot of people are going to have to realize that. Whether we blitz or not they are going to score, the offenses we face are to good not to. Miami maybe a mess, but we play them so early that I think they will be playing well also.

I said this earlier in the year and I still believe it to be true, this is the toughest schedule we have had in a while. I like jason garret and I am very confident in him, I hope he has these guys finely tuned on offense. Our season rests on the ability of our offense, cause we are going to have to get to the 30s to win a bunch of these games.

Our corners are terrible.

The only one I would keep is, of course, Newman.

Again, this is an area that Should have been upgraded in the off season.

It's a little late to be looking at our corners. We've been playing the same 3 guys since 2005 [Glenn, Henry, Newman] without any upgrades.

Do not expect Henry/Glenn to shut anyone down.

One thing Henry was good at was jumping routes. It seemed like his slant coverage/ cross the field routes and deep ball routes were a tad shady, but his out route and hitch route coverage is pretty good. Meaning for me, that if the blitz is getting there fast, and the QB is forced to hurry the throw, we could see a ton of INTs this year.

"Could" is the key word here.

Dallas better get pressure on the QB because it could spell disaster if they don't..

That should be a given
If the 'Boys don't start dismantling QBs by midseason, you will see an outcry not only by the fans but by Jerra

Wade will deliver His defensive teams will hound the QB and keep the defensive on their heels
With this kind of pressure, Newman and company can thrive

With the corners we got...and with Hamlin....there should be no reason why our blitz shouldn't get there

Is Romo ready for the 07 season? I mean, all he does is miss practice and hang out with celebrities and stuff.

I am not too worried as our CBs are better than San Diego's. They will get burnt at times with big plays but the trade off is that we should make a lot more big plays. So if we give up a TD or two on big plays but score a TD or 2 on INTs as well as setup another couple by causing fumbles and sacking the QB and forcing them to punt deep in their own territory it is worth it to me.

Pressure will do so many good things that they far outweigh the bad things that can result at times. I believe that having Hamlin at FS will help our coverage a lot, not because he is that much better in coverage than Watkins but that he is a leader on the field and will have the guys in the right places unlike the last few years.

I am not concerned about Newman or Henry in one-on-one coverage.

Until the last quarter of the season and the playoff game....of course. (like every year, no matter how much we blitzed or how conservative we were......magic?) We did have far less pass-rushing talent then, though, and those all-out blitzes were necessary.

I don't think I ever saw San Diego run anything like that. Which is good.

Oh really?

8 man blitz vs San Dog...and Henry almost blows the game.

You should be very worried if you are counting on Henry.
