Just something to keep in mind.
We start out the Jacksonville game... we go up 10-0, the defense is playing very well, several 3 and outs, the fans are booing Leftwich. We should go up 17-0 but Bledsoe misses a wide-open TO. After that the Jaguars go on to score 24 unanswered points, with 2 Bledsoe turnovers giving the Jaguars a short field to drive.
---
Game 2 vs the Commanders, not too much to say about this game. The Commanders just aren't too great of a team and we didn't have too many problems with them. Still, it was in the second quarter when we scored no points, yet the Commanders scored 10.
---
Game 3 vs the Titans, the Titans are another poor team, but keep in mind that the offense started off very slow here as well, led off by a Bledsoe interception. It was only after good defensive play and turnovers that we were able to get something going on offense.
---
Game 4 vs Philly, we start out the game by 'spotting' the Eagles a 10 point lead on a 3 and out, plus McBriar screw-up as well as a Drew Bledsoe fumble (here the defense stood up and only allowed a field-goal). We have to fight from behind and Bledsoe throws an INT to end the game.
---
Game 5 vs the Texans. Remember it was 6-3 at halftime, the offense had done NOTHING, it was again only after some turnovers by our defense that the offense scored points.
---
Game 6 vs the Giants, the offense does nothing for most of the first half, it is only after 2 turnovers by our defense that the offense gets the ball moving, yet Bledsoe throws the ball away after the second one. By this point the defense and the team is demoralized and the Giants drive the ball down the Cowboys' throats the entire second half. The one drive that Romo takes the team down the field for a TD, it is immediately followed by a 3 and out by the defense and a big sack by Demarcus Ware.
....
Anyway, I really don't think this defense is nearly as bad as it has been made to look. This is a big lumbering, ball control defense. It'll go out there and get you stops, even some turnovers, but leave it on the field too much and it will tire out. Don't do anything with the turnovers it gives you and it will get demoralized.
I think this has been the biggest problem for our team all year - because while some of the games have been high-scoring, we've had a very difficult time being consistent all game on offense. I think if Romo goes in, gives this offense a shot of life and helps it to drive the ball better, we will see a much better return on defense.
