I thought it was interesting that The Athletic had this year's free agent signings grouped by tiers. Naturally, our front office wasn't selecting from the first or second tiers or even from the first five. Our first signing came from Tier 6, which included "inconsistent or journeyman veterans who still have appeal; youngsters with potential or traits worth developing who have yet to hit their stride; upper-end role players."

68. RB Javonte Williams (Tier 6)

96. DE Dante Fowler (Tier 7 - Veterans who could start if needed, but teams would prefer to upgrade on; role players with a standout trait; talent worth taking a flier on.)

138. LB Jack Sanborn (Tier 8 - Veterans who might be near the end; role players; former draft crushes who haven’t panned out yet.)

DE Payton Turner, OL Robert Jones, DL Solomon Thomas and RB Miles Sanders were not included among 150 free agent signings. LB Kenny Taylor, CB Kairr Elam and QB Joe Milton III were acquired in trades.

BTW, according to The Athletic, we lost:

27. DE DeMarcus Lawrence
73. RB Rico Dowdle
88. CB Jourdan Lewis
119. WR Brandin Cooks
131. DL Chauncy Golston
136. QB Trey Lance

OT Armstead for the Dolphins just retired. I wouldn't be surprised if Tyron Smith is their addition to help Patrick Paul's transition to the NFL. I really want the Cowboys to resign Tyron, I don't trust Guyton or Steele to hold up throughout the entirety of this season. Signing him after the draft would be advisable so it doesn't affect the Comp Pick Formula.

Fowler had 10.5 sacks last season.

For reference, TJ Watt had 11.5 and played almost twice as many snaps as Fowler.

Does not mean Fowlwr is great, but I question the meaning of "7th" tier...

Agreed, that one got me.

Tyron didn't play well for the Jets and only played 10 games. He got injured and finished the season on IR.

If he would agree to a cheap swing tackle back-up position, I don't see how it would hurt. He has to have something left. He would be a good mentor to the young Tackles and he could Retire after this year as a Cowboy. I hope he doesn't have to start, but it's better than nothing.

Only thing he needs to do is sign a one day contract to retire as a cowboy. The last how many years of his career have been injury after injury

Doubt he would sign for league min, which is 1M+

Not sure how his money is.

I remember he had money management problems early in his career.

Friends/family were robbing the guy blind.

He always signed team friendly contracts.

Left a lot of money on the table.

Football is like life, one looks at the man, not excuses. To use him.

Jourdan Lewis was also in that tier area and he's a darn good slot cb.

And Cooks might be good again put in a pass offense that actually wants to throw deep.
