I am starting to get the distinct impression that we won't go DE with our first pick. Our secondary is essentially gone and corner is where the likely value will be. Tight end is in play in the first too.

I expect at least Carr back and they will probably try to bring back Mo. They won't feel the need to do much outside of that early. I'm thinking Safety, WR or TE may be the pick at 28 over someone like Harris or Lawson. Baker, Njoku, Ross, Peppers or maybe Obi. They could pick up a DE like Basham, Rivers, Hendrickson or Willis in the 2nd or 3rd. Theyare probably better values than Harris or Lawson at 28.

I'd really like to come away with one of Baker or S. Jones in the 1st and Basham at 60. I like that so much more than Harris/Lawson at 28 and the Lewis' or Sutton's available at 60.

I've narrowed it down to CB and TE (mainly the kid from Miami). I would love Budda, but I don't think Rod will want him due to size.

I'm throwing in the possibility of DT in the with 1st. We have interest in Caleb Brantley.

I dont think ot matters all that much what we do in FA TBH.

However, I do think its likely we wind up going secondary. I think that's how to board is going to play out. If I had to guess right now, I would guess Adoree Jackson or Peppers

I like Budda as well, but I think you have to FS's in that case with Jones

Both DE and secondary has quality pieces in the top 60+.

So, it just comes down to who is available and how the draft board looks like.
Could be a DE taken first or a corner, all depends on who is there. Highly doubt we go back to early 2000's of drafting by position rather than by talent.

The only thing to consider is depth. There is a lot more depth in the secondary than at DE. If a top 5 DE is available I think (and hope) we go that direction. If you miss on the top 2-3 CBs its a little more of a crap shoot as far as who pans out. You can draft 2 DBs later and hope one works out.

At our position in the draft there could be a BPA at safety also a strong possibility

Considering free agency hasn't even started yet and the draft is 7 weeks away........

Yes. But past seasons they sign multiple players at low levels and see what shakes out in training camp.

We won't know what we do until we are on the clock. It is all just an educated guess. I am just hazarding a guess about projected value available.

The player we pick will not be the best defensive end available. He will go first or second overall most likely. As many as five or so may go in front of us. It is supposedly a deep DE draft.

Howard or NJoku may be available at our pick. Corner may be a better value. What if the best right tackle slips that far? The first linebacker may stilll be on the board at that time. It's hard to tell but the 6th DE may not be that much different than the 12th best DE.

Bite your tongue! You do remember that the game is won in the trenches? The DL is the only group wrought the 28, 60, etc. I wouldn't even start looking for other bodies until the 4th round.

Njoku worries me in that I haven't seen any video of him where he blocks even to the level of just below adequate.

Sincerely, if you or anyone can point me in the direction of video where he does average to well as a blocker I'd like to see it so I can be more encouraged by his selection.

There's going to be a couple of really good guys at 28, just may not be DE.

Which is fine. I don't really see that much of a difference between Basham/Willis and Harris.

Take the BPA at 28, there's going to be a good one.

Not saying that's who i would draft...that's who I think the Cowboys could.

You can draft good secondary guys in the 3rd and 4th round of this draft. Very deep group.

The tight end that they should get is Howard or Butt from Michigan.

Engram - has the most chance of helping the team out of the gate. That's my pick.
