Jerry's new mantra.

Give me your poor tired draft busts yearning to get paid and I will huddle those masses and breathe free while satisfying my gambling fix.
Wow Cowboys fans has anybody assembled this many first round draft busts in one off season.

You just got to give it to Jerry he's bound and bent to not build the team in any proven conventional way.
His new plan if it pays off even partially will make him look like the football guy he wants to look like that he saw talent and resurrected all these careers.

In reality if some of the spit he has thrown against the wall actually sticks it will be a pleasant surprise.

I'm interested to see what cowboy Nation thinks about this new team building philosophy.
My opinion is at least we're trying something and with a new coaching staff there's always a chance that some of these players May achieve a higher potential and become useful starters.

That said if this coaching staff is also a bust this season could turn into a full-blown bloopers reel.

It's just a wrinkle in their SOP. Not really a new philosophy. LOL you probably know that. They usually go for the good to great players at the tail end of their career. They side stepped and are now going for the first round busts for cheap.

They went from passing on the girl that was beautiful but expensive, and getting them 30 years later, to going for the young but ugly right now. Who knows, it might work out.

Draft busts have a right to make a living too.
They are just misunderstood, and need a new start.

Jerry's player orphanage has an open door policy. Come on in, take my money for a year. As he hopes finds a replacement in the draft.

None of these players will put the team over the top. But they do need to fill out the roster. They are solid depth, and a few can start if needed.
They have about 73 players signed. And 9 draft picks. That leaves 8 spots for UDFA's and other street FA's.
But some of the 73 will be churned out, but not too many. Maybe 5 at the most.

More like the young, hot girl with VD.

I'm not sure that this is anything new. I'm sure I'm missing some but here are the former 1st/2nd round guys they have acquired the last couple of years.

Jordan Phillips
Trey Lance
Jonathan Mingo
Gareon Conley
Noah Igbinoghene
Rashaan Evans
Ronald Jones
Takk Mckinley
James Washington
Malik Hooker
Dante Fowler

Even most of the older guys they trade for (Cooks, Hankins, etc) seem to be former 1st round picks.

Then you even have the guys that were not early picks but probably had early draft grades and fell for other reasons like Martavis Bryant.

Some will work out to some extent, most wont. It's not a terrible strategy, but putting yourself in a position where you have to hit on these types of players is.

misunderstood, my mod papers are misunderstood!!!!!  :muttley:

A player that hasn't produced in how many years isn't misunderstood, now maybe it was a bad scheme etc I get that, but some players just don't have it!!!

I mean, I guess it's better than signing malcontents/criminals/off the field issue types and trying to rehabilitate them right? Kind of begs the question if this is the case, what is Calvin Hill doing now?

2-15, first pick in the draft, baaabbbbyyyy!!!!!!

It’s totally out of necessity. Our success rate with late round draft picks has been bad lately and it completely thinned the roster out. Signing 10 back-ups in free agency just shows what kind of mess the roster is in.
And early round.

Overall, we've been drafting like crapp for several years now. People kept repeating how good we were at drafting for so long that they started to believe themselves.

Au contraire. It is a terrible strategy. Wildly terrible.

We dont have a new strategy.

The competence level of our whole franchise is well known around the league. So players know what to expect when they sign here.

What we all experience is just what Dallas has to settle with:

My prediction for the upcoming season:
Dak gets hurt and we have no viable back up QB and poop the bed in a major way.
