Our Offense may not have gotten better, but the Defense certainly has

Mazi was a pick that needed to be made. Him and Hankins should significantly improve the run defense next year.

LB Overshown is as athletic as they come. If he has clear lanes, he'll tackle anyone in front of him.

And don't forget we have Gilmore.

Quinn is going to have this unit in the top 3, if not the best Defense in the league.

The weapons are better but we lost our LG
We upgraded at LG if Tyler Smith slides in there like they are hinting.

The hope is Waletzko can be a real swing and take over for Tyron when he gets nicked. Based on the little I’ve seen and what I’ve heard Waletzko looks like a legit swing.

If Wally is that, then we’ve 10000% upgraded going from McGovern to Smith.

This team drafts players with the intention of getting them on the field. Mazi will be a starter. And don’t at all be surprised if the TE we selected is a starter as well. And Overshown has a great opportunity to see the field as a coverage LB’er and maybe more. This team did not take a 4th WR or a 5th CB or a 6th pass rusher. Like it or not this is how they do business.

Pretty sure that's the goal. Remember we have the best offense in the league in our division. I know some fans don't wanna hear it but our road to the SB goes through Philly.

LOL.... the same as the 90s when the 49ers had to come through us.

The Cowboys improved the run offense today. That was a point of emphasis from the head coach. Anything to help the quarterback.

The defense will be top 7-8 easily. Probably higher by midseason. Stay healthy and they are top 5 or better by playoffs.
Honestly, the more I think about it, this draft, so far, has MM and Quinn written all over it.

Oh it's better than last season.....no question, subtraction alone did that. It appears the new offense will focus on winning games, not being top 5 in the league.

If the plan is to start Smith at LG, I'm fine with the picks so far. We still need depth along the offensive line and running back is a necessity for day 3, but Shoonmaker looks like a nice add on offense, and I'm feeling pretty good about the defensive picks.

Remember, there will be a second wave of free agents becoming available from training camp, through the end of preseason, and we should have roughly $22m to work with, minus the rookie class. I doubt we're done, even after the UDFA period. Regardless of what the pundits say about the draft, thus team has improved substantially since the 9ers game.

I'll say again what I've said in another thread.......

I thought that the Cowboys were going to focus more on the running game next season. Wouldn't that require an upgrade at LG and RB?

I get the TE, Schoonmaker. he a good blocking TE. I get Mazi Smith. the only upgrade we need more that the two previously mentioned is D-line interior against the run. Good pick, now that think about it some more.

However,

Pollard can't do it alone and I thought that Jerry would have learned by now that you just can't throw anybody in there to run the ball. With all the Curvin Richards and Derrick Lassics and Joseph Randles that have come through this franchise, surely he understands that!

I thought we were trying to find an upgrade to the LG position. Right now, we barely have a warm body and that isn't likely to improve with a day #3 pick.

So, I admit, I'm somewhat confused. What happened to focusing on a more relevant running game?

Defense is rock solid and deep at all positions. Maybe a slight need at CB because Bossman is a lost cause imo and Nashon is a JAG.

Offense needs another playmaker and depth on the line. I’m very worried about the O-line. Any injury there spells disaster.

Overshown is a perfect Dan Quinn pick. I think he’s going to coach him up and scheme him to really be a contributor.

And so the 49ers went out and built (or bought in their case) a defence which beat the Cowboys, which is hopefully what we have done in readiness for the Eagles.

Still time to get a RB......would love Rashone Johnson but I'm afraid it's probably too late for a day-one plug and play G. My guess is they have a couple free aget targets or trades in mind.
