1) Injuries (or avoiding them I hope). Most of our backups are not ready to step into major roles.
2) Penalties. I know it's pre-season, but we haven't shown that we've improved any when it comes to penalties. Even though winning tonight's game isn't important, we basically lost it due to penalties. Can't do that in the regular season like we did last year.
3) Turnovers. Same old story. We turn the ball over, but don't force any. Can't have it. Can't win with it. (Couldn't help it. We did play Singletary tonight)

Our starters looked good to me. Remember Roy didn't even play. Also, the special teams seem improved overall.

No, we have the talent to win the Super Bowl. We just can't seem to focus and keep it all together when it comes down to the nut cutting. Most of the teams in the NFL don't have the talent to win it all. We do, but we can't continue to shoot ourselves in the foot at the worse possible times.

Brilliant!

the biggest concern is that our starting offense has totally dominated the last two weeks, but have not scored many points.

Even when the starters were playing in the first half, another stupid penalty cost us 3 points. Often times, a play like that will result in a regular season loss.

When you have 10 minute drives, you tend not to score many points. What I hate is the dumb mistakes (penalities, interceptions) whenever we're in a position to score after those 10 minute drives.

and often times it won't.

You could say this for about 31 other teams

Well, maybe the injury part, but there are a few other teams that create more turnovers and have far fewer penalties. The Cowboys seem to stop themselves too often.

you should score more than one touchdown in a half when you have the ball for about 3/4 of the half.

I agree :)

We are not doing allot of game planning during these games. My biggest concern is how the starters look. We use preseason to evalute talent, not gameplan to win games. Gameplanning in the preseason is for loser teams to try to muster up pseudo momentum going into the season. Relax, the pressure will come from the defense and the offense will spread it out and light it up during the regular season. No need to give anything away before we have to. Prossman

If other teams have negative turnovers and more penalties then their season will more likely be worse than if the opposite were to happen. The Cowboys are hardly unique in that regard.

Our starters had 13 points in that first half If you count the field goal that was taken off, by a dumb mistake, and held control of the clock. That's 26 for the game.... that isn't bad at all. With a 3/4 time of possession and 26 points.. you should be winning a lot of games. Hell... don't count the FG, 20 points and 3/4 time of possession you should be winning a good amount of games.

A field goal take off, and a bad throw by Romo, and it would have been more. We need to work on the dumb mistakes.

I know we're playing very vanilla (so is every other team during pre-season), but the penalties continue to kill us. I just don't get it how we continue to kill our own drives or prolong the opponent's drives, even with our veteran players/starters on the field. That has to stop. It's almost like we're cursed when it comes to penalties.

No, we're not unique when it comes to these issues, but we haven't been able to correct our shortcomings either. The same things have killed our seasons the past few years and we have yet to make the adjustments to correct them.

I agree, but settling for 3 after those long drives will come back and bite them in the ***. Had they scored TDs instead of FGs they would have won going away.
