Just wanted to share a few thoughts and photos about the experience. Not sure what to say so will just go over some general info. This was my 1st game at the new stadium, 3 previous at Texas Stadium. 1-3 record, ouch!
With a budget of only $300 my wife and I took our 5 hour drive from Victoria to Dallas. Got to the motel and left to the stadium about 2. The traffic was good. We parked at the Nolan Ryans cash parking around 2:30. Only a few cars were there. Right around the corner was the Rangers parking for $60, we paid $20, so saved a few bucks for taking a few extra steps. We decided to go eat first and there are alot of places to eat. Someone told us there was a total of 27 places to eat around the area, so we found a WingStop. Afterwards we took the walk to the Stadium. (some of these streets don’t have sidewalks). They let you into the plaza at 4 and the stadium doors open at 5.
Was very exciting going in. Of course the place is beautiful and the atmosphere is great. We had seats in section 449, row 5. I knew they were high up and wasn’t expecting much. But they turned out to be pretty cool seats. You could see the whole field and the big screen was easily viewable. If you get those type of seats and get rows 1-6 you are in the smaller lower section, so you have a closer view. But you are still high up and it takes a few minutes adjusting. The rails are small and stairs very steep. The speaker noise level was good, wasn’t too loud. Also noticed they began painting the field level suits rails/side blue.
Ok onto the game. Watched the Niners punter. He wasn’t close on many of his punts. Only until the end he had one get close. Then tried again and hit it. After that he stopped, so was clear he just wanted to say he did it type thing. None of the punts came remotely close during the game.
Ok, now my thoughts on the Video Screen...or should i say, the CheerleaderTron. They are on and on ALOT. All the time, between breaks, between plays...in HD. Not complaining! But they could be a little more creative with it. Maybe they will once the season starts. One piece of advice to Jerry is to show actual REPLAYS! I think they showed maybe 2 or 3 replays the whole game! Even on the Wade Challenge, we didn’t get a replay. Also, don’t call it a Score Board because it rarely shows the score, or down and distance. You have a small tiny spot in the corner of the stadium for that. And if you want to know how many time outs each team has...you are out of luck. Nowhere to be found.
My wife says she was distracted by the large screen and wanted to watch it instead of the field. I didn’t have any problems watching the field. I wanted to see the secondary and the entire field. Of course i would look up at the big screen for a replay...but nope, they only showed live shots.
A few game notes: The Niners safetys would fake their coverages. Move up then run back into Cover 2. Ogletree was wide open deep on the overthrow from Kitna to MartyB on 3rd down. I thought the two corners Jenkins and Scandrick did really well. Scandrick looked very tired late in the 3rd. He didn’t even go to the huddle at times. On those two catches he gave up, it looked like the WR pushed off.
Now lets talk about the Stadium fan noise. This part blew us away. When our defense was the field...nobody, i mean nobody made noise. It was dead silent many times. I finally had it and began yelling, i mean it was 3rd down, make some freakin noise! A few in my area joined in and at one point seemed like the whole stadium responded. But for the most part...the fans did not cheer for the defense. Like i said, might change for the first game. But amazingly, when Romo and the offense was near the 4, my entire section was yelling and screaming. Why were these Cowboy fans making noise??? Bam, false start. This happened every time the Cowboy offense had the ball. Now let me say. This message board is full of Die-Hard Dallas Cowboy fans that are well informed. But i believe Cowboy fans in the Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington area are clueless about football. I tell you, the stadium was at its loudest when the CheerleaderTron took a break from the cheerleaders and showed an animated race between 3 coke cans. People were yelling, jumping up and down, going crazy! LOL. Maybe in the future, show the coke can race when the d-fense needs a stop. People in Dallas seem to really, really love it.
Now the food of choice in this place is without a doubt the Nachos. Everyone has them. Some have two. We bought some, they are very good and the portion is big. But hide your soda cups, we had ours stolen when we weren’t looking.
I also noticed many people in the Party Pass section sitting down on the floor. Kindof felt sorry for them.
At the end of the game. A drunken Niner fan was yelling and talking smack about beating Dallas. I found it funny being it was a preseason game...and they have no QB.
But overall we had a great experience and had alot of fun (and kept our budget!). All the fans were cool and the Event staff lady in our area was nice and helpful. Traffic leaving was easy too.
Driving back home the next day we listened to the Dallas Sports radio. 105 FM. Not trying to hate on Dallas Area fans...but geez some of these people are dumb. I heard one ”fan” say the Cowboys needed to cut Romo. Fans predicting a terrible season, ect ect. Stuff like that. Personally i think the Cowboys will have a great season.
Well, thanks for reading, hope i didn’t bore you too much! Here are a few photos.
Maybe they are putting the Landry Statue here?
This size of the windows is amazing.
These girls were giving out free hugs.
The screen looks high enough to me.
National anthem.
