Our UDFA WRs are intriguing, and I am especially interested

in keeping an eye on Saalim Hakim during the TC/pre-season.

Spags has a little write-up on Hakim as well in dallascowboys.com.

I would guess that Hakim is most likely a PS candidate this season, and that's if he really shows something. That said, what makes him intruiging is that he is supposed to be good on STs, and he is unique in that he and Radway are probably the only true "blazers" on the team.

In a sense, Hakim and Radway bring a different skill set to our group of wide receivers.

I'm sure Hakim needs a lot of work on running routes, recognizing defenses, etc., but I think if the work ethic is there, and he has good hands (and as I understand, they are pretty good), Hakim could be someone worth developing on the PS.

He is a prime PS candidate, his true value right now is as a gunner on special teams where he was truly one of the best in the nation. His WR skill set is another issue and needs a lot of work, he never started playing football till 2008, he went to Palomar College for soccer but had a decent year catching 28 for 379 but after transferring to Tarelton St he only caught 3 passes.

To put his speed in perspective...he runs a 4.29 and Desean Jackson runs a 4.35

Actually, everybody's least favorite Cowboys receiver, Kevin Ogletree, ran in the 4.3-4.35 range coming out of college...

Maybe so, but he doesn't seem to play quite that fast in pads whereas Desean Jackson is blazing fast in pads. You can just see him accelerating away from everyone on the field. He just has a different gear that most others lack. The other WR in the league like this is Mike Wallace from the Steelers.

I'd love to have a guy like that on the Cowboys to use as a field stretcher. It'd be nice if Hakim or Radway could fill that role. Miles and Dez are both reasonably fast but they are really more power players than speed players.

I think Hakim would be a great PS guy for a year or two so he can develop under the tutelage of Jimmy Robinson. Maybe we can turn him into our version of James Jordan but with better hands.

I keep reading this, but keep expecting to read something about his skills as a return man because of his speed and who his brother is.

BTW, I really think people dump on Otree too much because of that Washington game in week 3. Yes he had a fumble, ran a wrong route leading to an INT and couldn't figure out where to lineup on a goal to go situation.

I think people malign him for a dropped pass in the endzone that clearly hits the opposing player before getting to him. Romo needed to lead him a bit more on that play and if he did it was a TD.

The second thing I remember is that late in the game when we were way backed up he caught a 25 yarder from Romo over the middle which was thrown way, way behind him. Otree turned around and made a very difficult catch on that play which was a super clutch play for that stage of the game. People forget about it because of the later heroics of the Dez Brown catch.

The other thing I remember for most of the rest of the year is Romo threw a bunch of balls to him out of bounds for some reason. I also remember him making several tough catches over the middle where he was immediately pounded.

I do think the kid has a lot of potential and I agree with giving him another chance. At the same time I am impressed with the new group of kids and he will have to impress to remain on the roster this year. I do think he is capable of putting up Robinson type numbers.

Never did it or I just simply cant find any tapes or stats to prove he did. They did have him working on it today but I guess we will have to see if he can do it. With that speed, if he can pick it up he can find himself a roster spot.

Benford is an interesting guy IMO.

18 catches for 358 yards and 2 TDs at Tarleton St.

Also returned 5 kickoffs for 84 yards.

I haven't been able to find comprehensive UFL stats due to the league's current state. The season was only 4 games anyway.

I heard either on the break or talkin' cowboys that he was only a backup for the UFL. But Fassell still contacted Garrett about him as a developmental guy because he has the speed/quickness that you just don't see often.

keep talkin him up and he wont make the PS he'll b picked up by another team it was between us and the Saints and wldnt he have to clear wavers? good luck witht that PS

The saints would have to be willing to put him on their 53, with what they have at wr that would be unlikely.

Not likely that any team will spring for anyone
so unproven, unless he truly shines in PS.
So that becomes a cat-&-mouse game,
where we want to see what we have, but
we don't want to drop our drawers and show
everyone else, at the risk of losing the best
PS prospects.

Practice Squad Player.....nice depth there for the 4-5 spots. Coales looks like he already has the edge for the #3.

Yeah, Coale is a keeper, though he may
get beaten out by Harris this year. He might
be the only new WR to make the 53.

But he does not play to that speed. And Ogletree has never been good at ST either. And I was a big Ogletree proponent when he was an UDFA. He just has not progressed in his 3 seasons with the Cowboys.

I am still a big Cole Beasley fan. Yes, I am biased since I am an SMU alum, but after seeing him play for the last couple of years I am convinced he can be that water-bug type of player that gives Defenses fits. Consider this... He is only 5'9" tall, but he has been able to dunk a basketball since his freshman year in high school (38" vertical jump, 10'6" broad jump at his pro day). He has played mostly out of the slot in the last 2 years (something we need), and even with multiple, poor QBs throwing him the ball, he still managed 173 catches for 2100 yards over the last 2 seasons (12.1 yds per catch). He is a coach's son (high school), played QB in high school (smart), and he played QB in "wildcat" formations at SMU. He is very competitive, and wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line. Per Broaddus, when all the other WR's were falling out from heat/exhaustion at mini camp, Beasley was still hustling. I like this kid, and hope he gets a shot.

Have a feeling we could drop a WR that could help another team this year.

While none appear to be the definite #3 right now, alot of them appear to be at least #5 potential at the beginning of the season, hopefully some of them step up and earn the spot.

He's here because he ran (unofficially, hand timed) in the 4.2s. That's it. He did absolutely nothing in college or the UFL.

He's a track star trying to play football and I'd bet a whole lot of coin that he doesn't even make it to the final roster cuts, let alone make the team.
