Over-reaction on Camp Injuries

I don't think I can ever recall such nervousness by fans every time a player gets hurt at practice and leaves the field.

These guys now work out all year round...they learn most of what they need to know in OTAs, but it's still been months since being hit. Anyone who's ever played college or even high school ball can tell you that the first 2-3 weeks of contact in practice, everyone is limping around and off the field. Every bruise, strained muscle, and twisted joint hurts and swells; muscles you forgot about tighten and cramp or pull; and the brain receives and accentuates every message of unwanted pain.

It takes a few weeks before the brain stops accepting those messages from the body, and then the bruises and aches and even strained groins are things you can deal with because you don't feel them as much.

We're going to see plenty more guys leaving practice, being helped off, wearing slings and boots and even casts; QBs are going to have tired, sore arms. That's the nature of the game, and if some guys miss some pre-season games or Dez even misses a few real games and comes back full-strength after our early bye, that's just the way it is...as long as we don't lose Romo, DWare, Ratliff, or a starting CB for a bunch of real games, we'll be okay.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that we're getting our usual streak of camp injuies out of the way early, and let's keep them crossed that our injuries remain no worse than the dreaded high ankle sprain, as serious as it can be; no one's lost for the season yet, and no one's going under the knife yet.

If we make it to the first game vs. Washington with all of our main guys in the lineup (even if Dez isn't ready yet), we'll be one of the more fortunate teams in the NFL, as history as shown us.

Jerry Jones, I love your passion for the Cowboys and the game of football, but the gm's work is done at this point...relax, take a vacation and let the coaches do their work...this is not the time for the money man to over-react the way we fans do.

I agree. High ankle sprain in August> high ankle sprain in January.

Aye. I would be rather shocked if these types of bumps and bruises didn't occur. Just keep the really big injuries away. Please.

Are you kidding me, dude? This has nothing to do with all that fancy smancy talk of yours and everything to do with SCANDRICK! Jess, another Scandrick apologist come out of the woodwork. When does it end?

When the Dez Jocksniffers realize injuries happen.

It's not like we didn't have a bunch of season ending injuries last year in TC, and a smattering of other injuries that cost considerable training or game time. Of course, the Colombo and Roy Williams injuries led to backups stepping up to the plate.

It's part of the game, and if everyone was following other teams under the microscope like they do here for the Cowboys, this would be more obvious.
