that was a well designed play by the giants - and he was hit in the side by someone moving at full speed

is that even legal? that seems like an incredibly dangerous play? is there such a thing as defensive clipping?

I remember when people were so mad they kept giving Miles Austin chances when Sam Hurd was so much more polished (plus he was a special teamer!!!).

Well, he probably had a pretty big client list. Just saying...

Will Allen is a bum. I heard all the garbage cliches about this guy which happened to be assumptions. (He's the qb of the secondary. He lines everyone up. Savvy vet). Well if he lines people up how is HE the one who didn't get the call? Wilcox right now is better than him. Period.

I don't know how to break this to you, but other than the blown coverage on Cruz, Allen had a really nice game...

Why does Harris get so disrespected? He's clearly better than Williams and he's a tough kid. It makes no sense how he gets overlooked.

Agreed. You can see his savvy on the field. He was a special-teams demon tonight, and when they threw him the ball he showed speed, route-running and RAC. I hope he gets more shots.

Church- do people still want to doubt him? Forget measurables, he can play and is another player who deserves more respect from the fan base.

Ironic that you throw Will Allen under the bus, who made several plays on his own (notably the pick and an important early pass breakup in the redone when he was singled up in man coverage), and yet you give credit to Barry Church --who was really only in the right place at the right time to capitalize on someone else's great play (Nick Hayden stopping & stripping Wilson), but was invisible for the rest of the game.

I'm not saying Church is a bad player. I'm saying you seem to be seeing what you want and making a case out of very subjective snippets of the game.

Selvie- Spencer is on notice.

I think Spencer will be good for us this year, and gone next year. Selvie had a real nice game.

Oline- give them a B grade in pass blocking and C- in run blocking. Love Frederick.

Offensive line, overall, did a good job. Bernardeau had one but unfortunately very noticeable bad play. But otherwise, I actually thought the looked the part of a solid (not spectacular) starting guard. It will be good to get Waters in there. I thought our tackles played a very fine 4 quarters, particularly Tyron Smith, who pretty much owned JJP all night --though he did give up a sack to Tuck in the 4th quarter.

Lee and Carter......nothing needs to be said.

Real glad to have these guys. Would like to have seen more from Durant...

Claiborne- almost fed up with him. There is no next year for him. He needs to show some kind of legit playmaking ability this year.

Jumping the gun a little. Claiborne was not at 100% health in this game, and got hurt in another way part way through. Overall, his coverage was decent. I agree we need to see more from him. But it would be unrealistic to expect him to be in mid-season form in this game. He was questionable for the game at all recently. Give it time. He's got special talent...

The offensive philosophy is just bad. Players running the same route, letting dez get taken out of the game. I hope something changes with that.

I don't think the philosophy is bad. I think this wasn't the greatest play-calling we've ever seen. Hopefully Callahan remembers that he's actually pretty brilliant at this as the season goes along.

All in all, real nice to come away with the win. Team looked out of synch in a lot of ways, but when they could have folded, they made the plays to win the game. Gotta be proud of them. Half of it is psychological, and the Giants have had our number lately. We've got lots of improvement to do. But it's nice to be 1-0. I think these guys are only gonna get better as the season goes along...

I have to say that Spencer is not on notice. Spencer is still easily one of the most valuable players on the defense and will start immediately when he is ready. It's his job and his job only.

Nick Hayden was impressive to me tonitevery sound in run defense, including that strip. I think he wore down a little towards the end but all in all he and Hatcher were a great combination inside.

Pretty hard to sum up the game without a mention of how Tony played but you found a way to do it.

You must be furious he didn't fold.

Lol I don't hate Tony but I'm not a fan either. I wish him success though.

While that is true you can't deny the plays being made from his position tonight.

You do realize that Church also forced a fumble on a strip right? He was also very sound in his tackling. Not sure how you criticized him for being in the right place at the right time. So what? It happens in football all the time. But to not even mention his own strip of the ball is just being biased. Also it just goes to show he is aggressive and always trying to create a TO which is what you want from your safety. Also didnt see any bad angles on tackles either. Probably one of our better sure handed tacklers on this team that can lay the wood.

I refuse to acknowledge someone insinuating that Allen played better than Church. There's something to be said for a guy always being around the ball.

I wasn't criticizing Church in the least. I was merely noting that Will Allen made more individual plays in this game than Church did, yet the poster I was responding to was trumping Church and dumping on Allen. It didn't make sense, and I was just pointing that out. I didn't remember (or initially see) that it was Church who stripped the ball on Wilson's first fumble. If so, that's worth celebrating. But my original point remains that other than one blown coverage, which was costly, Allen actually played a real nice game at FS for us. The blown coverage is correctable. The pick, pass-break-up and overall solid play Allen gave us is not easily duplicatable. So you massage the bad and keep encouraging the good. It's early, but given the atrocious safety play we've had around here lately, I saw nothing from Will Allen that's making me look to kick him to the curb anytime soon...
