Overlooked positive on defense?

The defense had a rough day. No question. The secondary looked especially rugged.

However, there may be one overlooked positive:

It has been a rare occurrence over the past decade that the Cowboy defense has actually stopped an opponent from scoring a go-ahead TD very late in the fourth quarter, even rarer that they’ve forced a turnover in such a situation.

Perhaps Newman’s interception will serve as a catalyst and inspire the defense in the coming weeks.

I really wasn't upset at the defense until the Skins drove to make the score 21-16 (edit: not sure what the score was)... when they made that 4th and 4 play.

It was like we went into a prevent defense, gave them 10-12 yard patterns and let them drive right down to the redzone.

Either lack of effort from the play calling or no killer instict from the defense.

But hey, a bitter divisional rival game against a Skin's team that always plays us hard for the full 60 minutes.

I agree that we probably lose this game last year, but we were one pass to Cooley away from that outcome this year too. Had the Deadksins completed a pass over the middle on the their last drive rather than trying to work the sidelines, they would have been in range for another late TE TD to kill us.

That's true. When all the chips were down, they did come up with a big stop.

There were times in the mid-90s that the Cowboy defense, leading by less than a touchdown, was forced to make a crucial stop late in the fourth quarter. (Gasp. Imagine that! Even those great teams weren't always perfect. ;))

I can vividly remember Darren Woodson, Kenny Gant, James Washington, and Thomas Everett all creating vital turnovers when the team absolutely needed it.

He was toasted on a 3rd down play :p:

Sorry I am vague, I forget what quarter and what down it was.

Campbell ended up throwing an incomplete pass over the middle I believe though.

I bashed this D rough today but i agree...Older teams from the 2004-2006 era would of folded the game away. Atleast this team can overcome when they play bad.
