This team will have 2 premium impact players returning over the next 8 weeks. If you haven’t seen the interview with Overshown check it out from last night.
He talks about how he wants to be the most violent LBer in the NFL. How he has been in Flus hip pocket since he’s arrived, and how Flus has been in primarily the LBer meetings from Day 1.
Overshown will be a weapon, potentially limited in snaps but he suggests he will return sometime in October - well before the initial Thanksgiving report. This has me excited - he himself has stated his light shines brightest when on the field and if it was up to him he’s good enough to play snaps today.
The second young player to offer relief is Revel. Revel will add another top tier CB to this dire group - mid-season. Even if it’s in limited snaps, he will garner crucial experience as the 1st year for CB’s is a massive learning curve.
With Overshown and Revel adding to this defence, a young EZ and 2 safeties which could come in and replace Hooker/Dono - the future doesn’t look so bad.
If the Cowboys did in fact hit on Booker and pay Smith - the OL will be a strong position group. The only missing pieces we have is a stud RT and bell-cow RB which can be addressed late into round 1.
Cowboys have put themselves in position to build the team better than having Micah Parsons. They wouldn’t have this flexibility if not for trading him. He’s been here for 4 years and we’ve flamed out in the playoffs either way.
Now 3 years into Micah’s (5) year extension, where he would likely want to come back to the table - the Cowboys will have (4) 1st round picks replacing him. (2) of these picks will have 2 years of experience with (3) years remaning on their contract and the remaining (1) year of experience with (4) years remaining.
Let’s be honest - with Micah’s skillset at 29 YO he is likely slowing down from his 4.39 speed which is his greatest trait. Along with the ability to pay younger players, flexibility with the QB situation - we can think of a life where Dak plays well and we continue to build around him or draft his successor - all of which were out of question 4 weeks ago.
Thoughts?
