The Harley-Davidson X8E was only produced for the 1912 model year, which makes it a rare and collectible bike. This particular specimen also once belonged to the legendary Steve McQueen and features the larger 60 cubic inch engine that was added on only for the latter part of the year – making this one something extra special.

This was the first all-chain model produced by Harley-Davidson and it had a clutch, skirted fenders, and a 1000cc engine with mechanical valves. The initial engine was a 49 cubic inch V-twin that was replaced about mid-year by a more powerful 60 cubic inch engine capable of — wait for it — 8 horsepower. It has proved more popular with collectors both for its additional power and its rarity.

My daddy was a motorcycle man. A true blue biker. Not a methed out gangster biker, lol, but a real true blue biker. He owned in his lifetime pretty much every type of bike that you can think of, that was within his affordable means. He got his motorcycle license in 1951 when he was 12 years old. When bikes were cheap. He had 'em all. He even built his own bikes! And his own cars, but that's another story. And he rode every day, until the mid 1980's, when he had finally rode his last ride. That bike, his last one, sat in our backyard until the mid 2000's, when he finally decided to give it up. It was a Honda 750 cruiser. He called it his "cadillac". That was the saddest day for my daddy, to give his last bike up. But he was older, hadn't ridden in years, and he finally gave in and sold it. But I will never forget riding with my daddy, or my brother, or my brother in law (who was more of the biker image that you see on tv, but god I loved that man). They are all gone now, my dad in '08 and my brother and brother in law both just a few months ago, :(. My peoples..... and the bikes I so much loved...... but the memories I have on the backs of those bikes are memories that I will die with. I promise you that when it is my time to ride off in the sunset, it will be on the back of a bike.

Anyway, my daddy would have loved to have owned and ridden and taken care of this bike. It is a sweet and very old school beauty. It would have been an honor to him. He was a bike lover through and through.
