INDIANAPOLIS – Jim Irsay watched his Indianapolis Colts roll through regular season after regular season behind Peyton Manning. Then came all those disappointing playoff stumbles.

So when Indy's team owner started rebuilding last season, he changed the plan. Instead of relying on a high-flying, high-scoring offense to beat opponents, Irsay decided the way to get more frequent February celebrations was with a more balanced offense and more of a money balance between offensive and defensive players.

Easy to say when you don't have Payton Manning. It's funny Dungy was a defense guy before he hooked up with Manning, Shula was a defense guy that hooked up with Marino, Bilichick was a defensive guy but all those teams become offense oriented. They go with what works. If Irsay wants this magical balance then why didn't he go for the best RB in the draft instead of the best QB?
