Packers hired Dom Capers as defensive coordinator.

He chose the Pack over the Giants. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects Capers to run a "hybrid" scheme, but he may ultimately lean towards a 3-4. The Packers have enough linebackers and space eaters up front for the three-man front, although it may take away from LE Aaron Kampman's strengths. Green Bay will keep man-to-man coverage in the secondary. Jan. 19 - 12:10 am et

Well a defense that was already showing decline just got another reason to backslide even further .

I don't think Kampman would play well as an OLB in a 3-4 mainly because he would be a liability in coverage, kinda like Ellis. They would be better off staying in the 4-3 and playing to the players strengths. I wish we would play a little more 4-3 every now and then. We don't have to completely switch over.

a lot of the Giant defensive players have voiced their opinions that they want someone from within to be promoted so they can keep the current system. And it seems likely that that will happen. Capers may have been more trouble than the Giants would have realized.

they probably will stay a 4-3 team...Capers coached 4-3 defenses for Coughlin when they were in Jax

Pure speculation.

Some coaches do what they want and not what's best for the team. We shall see..

GIANTS’ HESITATION CAUSED THEM TO LOSE CAPERS
Posted by Mike Florio on January 19, 2009, 12:15 p.m.

As Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported on Sunday night, former Pats assistant coach and two-time expansion team head coach Dom Capers has decided to join the Packers as their new defensive coordinator.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Giants, and possibly several other teams, were chasing Capers. Because the Giants hesitated to meet Capers’ salary demands, he opted to jump to the Packers instead.

Per Mort, Capers is still owed $2.6 million from the Fins for 2009. He’ll receive a “discounted” salary in his first season with the Packers, since any money he receives there will only reduce the $2.6 million owed to him by Miami.

Next year, Capers will make more than $2 million.

Mortensen reports that the Giants will now consider internal candidates to replace former defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the new head coach of the Rams. But it’s still possible that outside candidates will be replaced.

Capers also might have drawn interest from the Ravens, Cowboys, Jets, and possibly the Chiefs.

Everyone talks about how good the Packers' corners are - but everytime I watch them and their bump n run they are getting lit up.

Thank you Green Bay... But I thought Capers was going to call plays for Garrett, when Jason becomes HC of the Cowboys...

How does such a crappy coach garner so much interest from NFL teams???? Especially teams who already have to top 15 defenses_Giants, Ravens, Packers, Cowboys, et.c????

Maybe, just maybe, this guy is still a pretty dang good DC. The fact that he likes to play man2man coverage gets him points, never mind that he's fielded top defenses in both 3-4 and 4-3 schemes.

My guess is beacuse he's associated with Belichick now. Before that he couldn't get a DC job because of how crappy he was in Miami.

:lmao2: And the hits keep on coming!

Capers spent 2 years with Miami, the last being the injury filled one win season. However, the year prior, his D fielded the DPOY.

I am sure that Capers is a known commodity around the league, he had value before joining Belichick's staff for one season.

You keep going back to the fact that Jason Taylor won DPOY. Maybe Capers should give Taylor half his paycheck.

You must be mistaking me for someone else. I have not mentioned this to you, and I certainly have not been "keep going back" to this fact.

The last time I can recall bringing up Taylor's DPOY was when I advocated trading for him to replace Greg Ellis.

You obviously have an agenda against Capers, based on his stats as a HC or somesuch. Just trying to point out that Capes is no Campo (who can't even get a DC job anymore).

Yeah, I have an agenda against the guy. My agenda is I don't want a sorry coach like him anywhere near our defense.

Kudos to you for admitting it. Yet coaches like Campo, Grantham or Stewart are acceptable.

Love your standard.
