Staff picks: Expect another shootout
September 20, 2008
Rob Demovsky (2-0)
The Cowboys have so many stars on offense – from quarterback Tony Romo to running back Marion Barber to tight end Jason Witten to receiver Terrell Owens – that they will stretch the Packers’ defense thin. Unless the Packers can get a pass rush on Romo, he could pick them apart. Aaron Rodgers and Co. should be able to put up some points against the Cowboys, but it will be tough to outscore them.
Cowboys 35, Packers 28
Tom Pelissero (2-0)
The Cowboys’ No. 3-ranked passing attack has favorable matchups in Terrell Owens vs. Al Harris and Jason Witten vs. the Packers’ linebackers. Dallas’ defense is pregnable, but can the Packers keep up in a shootout? The guess here is the visitors simply will make enough plays to sneak out of Lambeau Field with a victory.
Cowboys 33, Packers 31
Pete Dougherty (1-1)
Dallas in the end might have too much firepower for the Packers, though as the Cowboys showed last week against Philadelphia, their secondary will give up points. Quarterack Tony Romo is becoming a premier player, and he has all the help he could ask for with Terrell Owens, Jason Witten and Marion Barber. This is a big early season test for both teams, but by December it will matter only as a win or loss.
Cowboys 37, Packers 31
Mike Vandermause (1-1)
The Packers are better off than they were the last time they faced the Cowboys in a 37-27 loss. Cornerback Charles Woodson and defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila sat out due to injuries last November in Dallas but are expected to play tonight. The game is also at Lambeau Field, where the Cowboys have never won. This shootout will come down to turnovers, and a last-second, game-winning field goal by Mason Crosby.
Packers 31, Cowboys 30
SEE its not just the DFW media guys who dont pick their own teams to win,
happens in Green Bay too.
