I think its the owners kinda protecting themselves from a class action lawsuit by the players union down the road.

No, it's the result of the class action lawsuits from previous concussion outrage, remember?

Wouldn't be surprised if it was simply because it doesn’t look “cool”,:laugh:
Those brought back the memory of Don Bebe of the Bills in our SB years - he used to have a padding over his helmet (painted like the helmet) -but what they found out was that the extra padding would kinda make the helmets "stick" when they met.

Where 2 regular helmets would "slide" off each other.

Some thought facemasks looked "dorky" at first as well when Paul Brown brought them to the NFL in the mid 50's. Now you would say the helmet looks "dorky" without facemasks.

The bike helmet is likely to keep you from cracking your head open or getting road rash. It is not going to do anything for the brain.
I agree in part. There is still a heavy impact that sloshes the brain.

But the hard and soft protection....does SOMETHING?

Maybe it does allow them to hit harder...I dunno.

I also think the day's coming. They can improve safety of helmets with the studies and diagnostics they've funded in the past.
Science and technology. If we can put a man on Mars, surely helmets can be improved. Wait....whut??

Because they look weird, and not looking weird is more important than ensuring these guys have their full mental faculties later in life.

Why don’t they just keep those padded helmets all year, If it helps with concussions isn’t that a good idea?
If they actually reduce injury I'm all for it, but I actually think I saw a study a few years ago that the extra helmet padding makes players MORE susceptible to brain injuries due to the excess weight their necks are carrying around.

I doubt that is actually the case or the NFL would not be so adamant about all teams implementing their use in practice... right???
