the Gspots ease the criticism of Wade? In other words, did the fact that the "genius" Belicheck lost to a hot team take some of the heat off Wade or not? This question has been bugging me for awhile, but it's been too painful to post because it's still shocking we lost to a team we should've beaten. I still think Wade has to win it all this year or Red takes over. But in hindsight, it certainly appears NY got on a roll and that Dallas and N.England weren't playing their best ball in December. It's history I know, and as Ditka likes to say: "the past is for cowards and losers". But there are some solid football minds on this site and I'm just curious I guess..........

I think if you would have told average Cowboys fan that we wouldve won 10 games and went to the playoffs before last season, they would be happy.

The expectations were raised because he exceeded anyones expectations by a longshot. We have a good thing going with this coaching staff and with the defense and offense under the same coordinators for consecutive seasons its only going to get better.

i REALLY want to see what this defense can do with Jones and/or corner helping out. It took a year for SD's defense to click with Wades scheme and Im hoping the same pattern follows here.

Fair enough Fuzzy. I'm NOT trying to dog Wade: what's not to like? But Dallas is tougher on coaches than anywhere else because of the success Landry and Jimmy had. Time will tell, but you're right about the talent influx this season: Jones, maybe R.Williams in a trade, and all the other draft picks. Can't wait. Never can.

Yes, I think the fact that the Giants went through Dallas, Green Bay, and New England - the three best teams in 2007 - and as huge underdogs in each contest, made the playoff loss look better in retrospect.

Just imagine if one week later the Giants had gone to Green Bay and gotten blown out.

Wade has already said that there are going to be changes on defense this year. Wade was using players that didn't fit his scheme, and was working with coaches that didn't suscribe to his style of play. Lookin at history, Wade's defense makes major strides his second year, but really shine in the third.

Jerry is quite aware of this.

i know youre not bashing him brah and youre right the perception that he failed at the end of the season is there. there is some solace in knowing that we were beaten by the champs but the team did lose focus after the GB game and wade is responsible for allowing that to happen.

If there is another swoon though i think you need to start looking in the lockerroom. this team lost focus in the second half even in parcells time. its been strong starts and late fades since 2003 with this club.

winning franchises like the Spurs and the Yankees do the very opposite. they coast to begin and turn it on come playoff time. Torre and Popovich are instrumental in that.

Moose Johnston seems to think so. He was asked about Wade a couple of days ago on GAC and said that he really likes Wade, thinks he's a very good coach, and believes that fans have been too hard on a guy who lost to the team that also beat Green Bay at Lambeau and the supposed "perfect" team in the Super Bowl.

I still almost can't believe that the Giants beat the Pats... But they did. They must have been a pretty damn good team to do that.

I'm hearing you loud and clear on the locker room leadership issue Fuzzy. I've been saying that for a few years now. Losing Davis sucked: decent leader on the field I thought. But it's obvious to anyone with a pulse this is what the Zack Thomas trade was all about. If he's healthy......look out.

Not everything was in place leading up to the playoffs game with the Giants. At the end of the season 13-3 was mighty good by anyone's standards, but the last month of regular play was in a downward spiral.
When the giants came to play, I was fairly confident the Boys could dispatch the Giants with relative ease, by say, 10 points.
What I did not count on was Wade's continued complacency, i.e. his mantra the last month, "We're fine," was worrisome.)
In the end, this was an overconfident, seemingly unmotivated team that was going through the motion. Very little fire seen in players or coaches (save one player who drew an unsportsmanship penalty for being overly aggressive, I think)
And the Cowboys lost in their own house.
Unmotivated and poorly led. No way the Giants had the better team. But they played better and with fire. Two things lacking in the cowboys during that game.

So, no, I don't give Wade a pass on that game solely because the others lost to the Giants.
It should have been the Cowboys with the upset of the tired and perhaps overconfident Patriots.

It doesn't in my book. I really don't care about what any other team did or how we measure up against those teams.

At the end of the season we still have to cope with a post Thanksgiving swoon and yet another 1st round exit from the playoffs.

If anything, that raises the scrutiny level. That is as it should be too.

Yes, Zach will definitely put us over the top.

All I know is the Pats have the easiest schedule in the league next year and I would not be one bit surprised if they go on another SERIOUS tear like last year. I expect it actually.

The hardliners will say no. It makes no difference. We were the better team and should have won.

The apologists who'll try to put a positive spin on anything in Cowboyland(I tend to fall more into this group), will say yes, it makes all the difference in the world! We were victimized by a super hot team.

As always the truth lies somewhere in between.

I totally agree.

The 2007 season leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth.

Cowherd was expressing the opinion today that the Cowboys have undergone some serious turbulence during this offseason with all of the assistant coaches (and players) that left the team. He also threw in some stuff on Romo and Simpson living together (adding to the "distractions"). It was his opinion that the Cowboys are not likely to do as well this season as 2007.

Cowherd is certainly no authority on the NFL, but I am concerned that he might actually have something with all of the changes on the coaching staff. Continuity does mean something in the NFL. Wade Phillips does have to deal with a lot of big expectations this season. We'll see.
