"The Raiders are hoping he(Palmer) can do a lot, having traded a 2012 first-round pick and a conditional second-rounder in 2013(to the Bengals) that can become another first if Oakland makes it to the AFC title game in either of the next two years."

Even if the Raiders had made it to an AFC title game in either 2011 or 2012, that would have been a bad trade. A 1st and a 2nd was too much to trade away to get Palmer's services. It is too much to give up for most QBs.

The cost for Arizona is the contract. Palmer is getting 13 mil this year.

And they don't even have Uncle Al to blame for this either. Guess it must go with the territory.

It was probably Al's dying wish since it happened just over a week after he passed away.

Hue Jackson just swang for the fences on that one and totally missed. I thought it was a good pickup at the time (the price was terrible but Palmer can be very productive).

The Raiders can be upset all they want. However, they had a situation when Davis died wherein there was a complete power vacuum and no plan in place for his replacement. It is amazing how someone who so completely control his organization did nothing to detail how it would be controlled after his death. It ain't luck his death was a real surprise or anything.

Palmer already stated he was willing to take a paycut...just not with the Raiders because he realized that they sucked and had no plans on getting better

It was not a good pickup at the time no matter what Oakland gave up to get Palmer. Even if they traded only a 7th it wasn't a good pickup because of Palmer's situation. Oakland was already 6 games into the season and Palmer was at home basically retired. He hadn't gone to any mini-camps, training camp or played in any pre-season or regular season games. It was ridiculous to think Palmer could come in and actually be productive. That is not a good pickup in my book. Throw in the price it took to get him and it became a terrible pickup.

It would be different if Oakland had made the trade before the season started and got Palmer in to training camp and stuff. They still would have given up too much, but at least he could have come in and got some reps and developed some sort of chemistry with the team. That doesn't happen when you join a team with a third of the season already gone.

I'm thinking the Raiders will simply give Pryor/Flynn a camp battle, run with them a year to see if they can guide them to success. If not, they'll have a terrible record and be prime to pick a QB next year in what's considered by many to be a QB-rich draft.

Palmer didn't really play bad for Oakland IMO. To me, this is a case of a team not having the talent to do anything with Palmer's abilities.

How can you be as bad and for that long as the Raiders have been? I checked and they haven't had a winning in season in 10 years.

I always liked him. Remember very well the playoff game when a Steeler player knocked him out of the game on a cheap shot. Prior to that, the guy was simply outstanding. A QB that could scare you when he was on the field.

Feel bad for the guy and hope he makes a comeback -- seeing we will not have to see him much. And wish him the best of success.

I was hoping the Pats were going to trade Mallet and pick him up as a back-up, but the guy wants to be the QB, and do not blame him for that. Hey, we can all hope for what we want, knew it was not going to happen.

Wish him the best of luck, and come back as the player I remember. At one time, a scary guy on a team, a difference maker. Only wish him the best.

The Raiders, well, forget it. Maybe they can turn their team around with Davis out of the picture.

Sadly it looks like we've adopted the Raiders formula for success in recent years :banghead:
