Panthers OT accused of brandishing gun at strip club

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Carolina Panthers tackle Jeremy Bridges was arrested Thursday and charged with misdemeanor assault after he was accused of pointing a gun at a female employee of a strip club.

Capt. Lisa Goelz of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department said the incident occurred Wednesday night at Club Onyx in Charlotte, but the woman didn't file a complaint with police until Thursday.

Bridges was arrested Thursday afternoon and released on $3,000 bond.

Panthers spokesman Charlie Dayton said the team was gathering information.

"Those who know this organization knows we take these situations seriously," Dayton said.

Dayton said he was unsure if Bridges would report to training camp on Friday. Players are due in Spartanburg, S.C., by noon for a series of meetings. The first practice is Saturday morning.

Bridges could also face disciplinary action from the NFL under the league's new, tougher conduct policy.

Bridges is the second Panthers player to be arrested in the offseason. D'Anthony Batiste was acquitted of carrying a concealed weapon after a Mecklenburg County judge ruled his arrest for a window tint violation was a pretext to search Batiste's car.

The 6-foot-4, 326-pound Bridges was signed last September after starting left tackle Travelle Wharton sustained a season-ending knee injury. He eventually moved into the starting lineup at right tackle when Jordan Gross moved to the left side to replace Wharton.

Bridges, who played at Southern Mississippi, spent two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and started 11 games before he was cut in training camp in 2006. The Panthers were impressed with how he filled in last season, and he was a candidate to remain a starter this season.

Why would Bridges take a gun into a club where alcohol is served?
Why would someone of his physical stature need a gun to point at a female? Perhaps the female outweighed him or was more buff?
Just curious

Because there is strip club portion there, so it would be easy to label the whole club as a strip club. It is all the same building under the same name, club Onyx. and according to one of the security staff, he was in the dance club area. Is he lying? I don't know, and I don't care. But in the interest of presenting more information.......

Maybe Goodell should just say that all NFL players are forbidden to enter or be in the same block as a strip club. Imagine how many fewer problems the NFL would have?

Yep. I am beginning to think that all evil (NFL-wise) emanates from strip clubs. And also, going to and speeding from strip clubs.

Just kidding......seriously.....stop that....put that down

:eekmouse:
Good one Yeags. I was attending a BACHELOR party that night. One of the reasons I know a good bit about the club is because they advertise with me.

And no, I didnt make it rain. I only brought 20 bucks. I suppose I could have made it hail storm with a bag of pennies or nickels.

Regardless these guys and strippers do not seem to mix and it appears time after time after time these guys get into hot water over strippers. I know people will tell be that these places are no big deal and they have said this each and every single time these incidents happen and yet here we go again. I would think after a while some would snap to what I have been saying. I'm sure one of the posters will tell me how he goes to these places but I will say you’re not an NFL player making big bucks and the people at these places know who is who.

I wonder if she was a stripper, waitress or bartender. Which part of the complex did this incident occur? It doesn't change that he is dumb for brandishing a weapon. That is just not needed. Just curious.

True she may have been a waitress or bartender but geez how many incidents have to take place before these guys realize to stay clear of these places.

Just seems to me to be so dumb to go there. they got a lot of money- not like they need to go to dives like that to find women. I wonder if anyone has made a count of the number of incidents over the last say 5 years that an NFL player has gotten into trouble at one? I bet you are probably looking at near 100.

A lot of Irvin problems were taking place at a Dallas strip club which is where he met the woman he was busted with on the drug charges. Keith Davis in 03 is shot outside a Dallas strip club. Pac man and his well published problems and there are many others. Guys in the spot light need to be careful of where they go and who they hang out with

He does do chicken impersonations the way he wants, every time he posts.

Burm, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. You owe me one and I will take it.

Actually, both of you are right. When chickens are clucking normally, they make the "bock bock" sound; and when they're more 'subdued' so to speak, they make the more slower "brock brock" sound.

 What can I say? I'm an old country boy whose grandparents raised chickens while I was growing up, okay? ;)

Someone labeled Hoss should watch what he says about chickens.

I won't argue about strip clubs in general. I just think this guy is more the problem than the place. It could have been a basic night club and he probably would have still brandished his weapon. Trouble finds certain people because they are trouble.

You could be right but I just don't think this is accidental I just feel that these places and players do not mix very well.
