Miami Dolphins hire Dan Henning as offensive coordinator
Monday, February 04, 2008

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) Dan Henning was hired Monday as the Miami Dolphins' offensive coordinator, joining head coach Tony Sparano's staff more than a quarter-century after his first stint with the franchise.

The 65-year-old Henning has coached in the NFL for 28 years, most recently as offensive coordinator in Carolina from 2002-06.

He was Miami's quarterbacks and receivers coach in 1979 and 1980 under head coach Don Shula.

Henning is well-versed in the ways of new Miami football operations head Bill Parcells; they worked together when Parcells was head coach of the New York Jets.

Henning was head coach in Atlanta (1983-86) and San Diego (1989-91), plus has also spent time in the NFL with the Houston Oilers, Washington Commanders, Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills.

Parcells wanted him here in 2003 era but he was locked up.

Nice move by Ireland.

but it's ok, because it's Parcells, not Jerry Jones, the bumbling baffoon, who is doing the leg-cutting :)

So, yeah, I'm guessing Ireland is NOT a *real* GM.

It's a very good hire, I'm just laughing at the ludicrous situations these guys got "promoted" to.

I'm sure Ireland is busy with the draft at the moment. That'd be tough to have to jump ship and evaluate the current system/put together a new one in such short time.

Henning seems like a good safe choice. They're not expecting to win the Super Bowl next year.

Do you believe 1/5th of the stuff you say or are you just looking for attention?

I'd take Parcells over Jones any day of the week as my GM.:)

Totally agree. This is the right move, at the right time, for them.

Parcells and Ireland are bringing stability to a dreadfull organization. They brought in a savy OC that will play Bp style football. They stole our scouting department and better assistants.

Armed with #1 pick Tuna and Ireland are off to hunt Bear.

This hire has BP written all over it. I wonder if Tony S. had any say in this hire.

If anybody thinks that Miami stole our scouting department and 'better' assistants, they are living in bizarro world...

Our secondary was out of position, and our LBs got burned, and it was only with Wade's new scheme our line got pressure and sacks...
