Parcells not thinking about retiring

This may not be significant, but I just watched Parcells press conference,
and he told a reporter that if he could find him 3 or 4 players in next year's draft that could play 800 snaps, he'd take them. (referring to Burnett) At this point, looks like he plans on coming back. Of course a lot can happen in the mean time.

Cool at least his mindset at this point is to return but I still expect that he will take some time off at the end of the year and determine if this is what he wants to do. I hope it is what he wants

When he ultimately retires this winter, next winter or whenever, how many stories will there be stating that it was his rift with Jerry Jones that caused his retirement?

I don't think that will be the case unless there was a public blowup between Jerry and Bill prior to BP calling it quits.

If we tank he will retire.
If we win the SB he may retire.

Heck maybe if we win the SB he will retire. On the other hand, he might just think that he has a chance to win SBs back to back like Cowboys did in the 90s. Frankly, I doubt that Parcells would really enjoy retirement. He thrives on creating a football team and his relationship with these young players. Since he has 2 or 3 daughters and 1 grandson, he probably sees these young players as his children. No, I think he sticks around even if we win the SB this year or next year.

I think it comes down to how much he is enjoying what he is doing which is what brought Parcells out of retirement in the past as well as his health.

Actually it is going to be funny to see how many times we see "Parcells would have don this" or "Parcells would have done that" on this board and others when people almost certainly want to question the moves and decisions of whatever poor soul inherits the title of Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys next ;) .

I guess I am going to have to agree with you agains Doomsday. People want to say that if he wins the SB then he will definitely retire but I just dont think thats the case. Parcells coaches because he loves the game and I think Romo has actually energized him. Did you listen to how he talked about Romo and how he enjoys teaching him the game. I think that by itself will bring him back. If Parcells wins the SB I think he will consider how he has a good young team with a good QB that has a chance to better themselves.

This team actually has a chance to be better next season and I think that will be enough for him to come back. Personally I just dont see him retiring after this season no matter how this season ends up. He finally has the young Qb that he has always wanted and the defense the way he envisions it.

This year was about winning. Next season will be about dominating like that 90 giants team!

I agree. I think Bill is a lot like his buddy Bobby Knight. He hates to lose yet does not get a lot of enjoyment out of the wins. I have seen Parcells talk about that in the past and saw a recent interview with Knight who was saying the same thing.

Who knows what Parcells thinks? He was thinking about leaving to another team a day or so before a SuperBowl...

His job is on the line from here on out! JJ is starting to 'churn' the bottom of his roster...

Whatever Parcells decides to do, he sure left the Cowboys in a good position...that is for sure!

Yeh, OMG, think about what we had here in Dallas before Parcels arrived.

He could stay on a few more years and smear Gibbs face in the dirt for awhile, the Foreskins are doomed for at least the next half a decade. Gibbs should bow out now, he is making Hall of Fame coaches look weak.

I think the only way Parcells doesn't retire is if we go deep in the playoffs, maybe the Super Bowl, but ultimately lose. He'll know for sure that he has a team so close to winning the championship that he'll give it one last go.

If we don't make the playoffs or win the Super Bowl, I think Parcells will call it quits.

I havent gotten the feeling that he wants to retire yet. If we win a super bowl, he would be in prime position to build a dyansty... not a lot of coaches can say they had that. This is may be Parcells Year 4, but it is also Romo Year 1... And this is for the most part Year 1 of a fully staffed 3-4 defense... You could call last year 3-4 year one, but it isn't really the same...

This team is extremely young, and if we can win now, we could probably win another 2-3 down the road.

If we win SB and have a potential dynasty on her hands then he could sign on for about 3 more years after this one... he mentioned being here for NEW stadium...

The notion of hanging around for a Superbowl applies mostly to aging players, IMHO. Parcells has already been to the big game and won it. I can't imagine him building a championship-calibre team and then just walking away from it. I think he stays as long as he's having fun, and it's fun as long as you have a legitmate shot.

I can't see him sticking it out for another rebuilding job if we weren't already close.

Who said anything about rebuilding again?

This season has been pivotal not only because our defense has finally come together, but most importantly because it would appear that we have an elite franchise qb.

All this team has to do now is lock up a few of our players long term, and then probably get a couple new offensive youths. Probably need a new guard and maybe a new tackle. We also probably need a receiver.
