So I'll never be convinced that playing not-to-lose with a bus driver can win against a good team in the NFL.

The Giants won on Sunday because the turnover ration was 4-0 and overwhelming statistical advantage for victory.
Sorry, don't get your meaning.
And sorry but that's just how I feel about BP's style 4th quarter on. When I say Garrett was attacking till late I meant when he took over, not really about the game Sunday.
Another thing that was maddening about Parcell's policy of conservative play was we had Julius "Piles" Jones. So with the game on the line we would often run and well.... you know. :(

It was the same results either way. We had a small lead at the end and the defense gave it away last night. How is that different from the Parcells days?

It was the same. damn. story with Parcells at the helm. Or are you forgetting that defensive collapse in 2006?

we gave last nights game away when Garrett/Romo decided to try to go deep when we where up by 4 in the 4th and 3 runs would have probably put us in FG range at the very least :banghead:

I just think it was a give and take between Jerry and Bill a lot of the times. That is how they ended up co-existing for as long as they did. They both wanted to win, and they both got theirs here and there.

They got along better than anyone thought they would. Im just not sure about that glowing track record of Jerrys.

If he didnt extend T.O. wed have $10M extra to play w/ this season. etc.

Jerry made a lot of picks that turned out to be winners by overruling Parcells.

Newman over Dwayne Robertson was a Jerry pick.

Ware over Spears at 11.

Parcells wanted Al Johnson in the 2nd round, Jerry wanted Witten. We're lucky Witten slid to the 3rd.

Felix Jones and Martellus Bennett are both post Parcells Jerry picks.

Arguably the best center in the league, Gurode, was a Jerry Pick pre Parcells. Same with Flozell.

They've both had hits and misses, but Jerry has actually become a pretty good shrewd GM. The talent on this roster is just as much because of him as it is because of Parcells.

2003 draft Newman
The night before the 2003 draft, scouts and personnel people wanted the team to draft Terence Newman, the cornerback from Kansas State, if he was available.
Parcells preferred Oklahoma State defensive tackle Kevin Williams.
Owner/general manager Jerry Jones took Parcells out to dinner and convinced him Newman was the better choice. The next day, Dallas selected Newman as the No. 5 pick in the first round, and he's started every game since.
"It's been off and on," said Larry Lacewell, the Cowboys' retired scouting director, who worked with Parcells in his first two seasons in Dallas. "Under Parcells, it was him. Before, it was scouts and whoever. ... We got Jerry and Stephen [Jones] to take him out and made him mad and told him we're going to take Newman."
Coaches wanting one player and scouts wanting another is a common occurrence in NFL draft rooms.

This franchise was so off course when Parcells took over that Parcells had to build a course before he could even put the team back on it. For that, I am thankful. But watching the Dolphins play, there's not one part of me that wishes for that regime. I like winning time of possession and turnover battles, but not at the cost of a killer mentality. Give me wanting to go for the win over trying to play keepaway any day of the week.

As for Jerry's GM abilities, I never thought I'd reach a day where I'd grow moderately comfortable with his drafts. The '08 draft was a gem (of course, this year's appears atrocious).

If only he could develop an eye for finding a head coach. His batting average has not been pretty in recent years in that dept.

Again, with the Dolphins running for 239 yards and dominating time of possession 45 min to 15 min.

How can they lose?

Running the ball well has very little correlation to winning in the NFL if you can't pass the ball more effectively than your opponent.

Just like last week, they ran the ball better than their opponent but passed the ball worse and lost. That's how it usually goes in the NFL.

Two plays define our games and philosopies.

Last night its 1st and 10 from near midfield after gashing them with the run. We run PA and Romo lobs it deep to Hurd and its picked. We lose all momentum. We are clearly aggressive and going for the throat. I like the call. I dislike the execution.

Tonight its 3rd and 6 from around the 30 yard line. Sparano calls for a standard between the tackles run, the safe play and they kick the FG. A little too conservative? You bet. They are only up 3 with a little over 3 minutes, and Peyton easily drives 80 yards in 30 seconds.

If they pass for the first down instead of being scared, they have a chance to wind the clock all the way down and not give Peyton a chance to score.

You can ***** and moan at the mistakes we made, but there is no perfect way to play the game. Each way has its advantages and disadvantages.

I'll still take our style with the firepower we have over the ball control conservative offense.

And Phillips?

he's obviously proven to be a mistake, although the defense did play better his first two yrs than it did under Parcells..I also think that the offense (when helathy) has been far better under Garrett than it was under Parcells/Sparano/Haley

Parcells the front office man did a good job here, I've always said that. Parcells the coach was a failure though IMO. 4 yrs, no playoff wins. Thats not was he was hired and paid 18 million for.

Miami had rotten clock management. Two running plays that ate up 90 seconds on that last drive. No urgency. Think they might have wanted that back when they got the ball at the Colts 30 with only time for a 'hail mary'?

And for all the anti prevent cliche folks, they decided to blitz Manning rather than play prevent at the end. Result: 50 yard bubble screen for touchdown. Though they'd have probably gone down regardless.

Parcells brought in a good system for picking players in the draft. But he turned out to be as bad choosing his pet cats as anyone.

But his pressers were pretty funny....

he definitely picked some bad ones, but he helped choose alot of good ones too...no team picks all "winners"

Akin Ayodele doesn't tackle Dallas Clark = 7.
Fasano can't make a tough catch at the goal line.
Bill/Tony try to nurse a less than touchdown lead.

Beaten by a great play.

Testaverde...I mean Pennington comes up short with sloppy time management in the 2 minute drill.

Things could be worse.

Well see they have no heart :laugh2:

I love it. Everyone down here thought they were going to win 12 games. The reality is they had an easy schedule last year. I'm smelling 0-3 after they lose to the chargers.

they said on BSPN this morning that since the time of possession stat has been followed (70's) this was the largest disparity (15min-indy/45min-Fins) that has EVER resulted in a victory for the team w/ the lesser amount. Unfrigginbelievable to me that Miami lost that game.

I'm shocked at the fact they're 0-2. Didn't I hear all last year, all this offseason, about how they have the most genius HC in the league and how we're stupid for not allowing him to stay here? They can't possibly be 0-2 with poor clock management in the 2 minute drill cause their coach is just too genius for that.
