The Dolphins are expected to offer Calvin Pace a deal similar to the one Adalius Thomas and Joey Porter commanded last off-season.

The acquisition of Pace would almost certainly shift the Dolphins into more of a permanent 3-4 defense, as Pace struggled in 4-3 schemes for his first four years in the NFL.

Dolphins agreed to terms with G Justin Smiley on a five-year contract worth $25 million, including a $9 million signing bonus.

The Bengals, Raiders, and Rams were also thought to have interest. Smiley is recovering from a torn labrum, but should be O.K. by training camp. The 2004 second-round pick will play right guard in Miami, replacing Rex Hadnot.

Smiley is their Kosier, it's a good signing

Smiley is a good player. Now that the going rate is 5 mill a year for decent guards, Flo's deal at LT seems like even more of a bargain.

He can spend what he wants, but if the jets end up with faneca the fans will be in a uproar considering the dolphins had 40 million to spend. The fans down here are tired of second tier free agents, they wanted a splash.

Those fans sound awfully dumb. The Dolpins aren't one big free agent away from contending. They need to replenish talent on the 53 man roster from top to bottom. I thought Smiley came pretty cheap. He basically got half of what Dockery, Bigg and Steinbach got last year. Bigg is on a whole other level, but I don't think he's that far below Dockery.

Is there any bigger joke than the NFL's tampering rules before free agency deadline?

I bet the Dolphin fans saw Flozel Adams as a big upcoming signing. Ha. Sorry to disappoint them but he's here to stay so he can take care of Romo. W/o a good OL to protect Bulger of the Rams last year, you all see what happened to that team. The same thing could happen to the Cowboys if we let Flozel go & moved Davis to LT.
