Davis has been toasted the last couple games, yet Watkins isn't getting much more playing time.

I think this move has everything to do with Watkins not being close to where they want him, especially in the post-season.

I do not like Davis as a safety, at least not as a free safety. But I don't think he has been "toasted". He's done exactly what he has done all along and that is be mediocre at best. I just have a hard time swallowing the idea that he has been so bad that we were motivated to sign Parrish to take over immediately.

At any rate, again, Parrish being active means Watkins goes away or we deactivate someone else each week. I might be missing something, but it seems like a tough decision for Coach Parcells every week, I don't know if adding another is what the intent was.

I view it just like Parcells said:

"Taking a look"

If Parrish looks like he can play, he's a definite upgrade over either Davis or Watkins.

And although I like Watkins' potential, it wouldn't bother me in the least if he had to sit so a more capable, experienced, veteran could step in and do the job that Watkins - to this point - can't.

If he doesn't look like he's still got it, you picked up a guy for depth for $400,000 (or whatever the number was) who might be able to step in for a game if injuries occur.

Parrish' questions are purely physical. We know he can get the job done from a mental perspective. He's had some good games against the Cowboys in the past too.

I look at it as a wait-and-see proposition right now.

With fingers crossed.

actually tackling wasn't one of Parrish's strengths, he was critized more often then not when it came to wrapping people up

He is a hitter, not a tackler.

There is a difference.

How is it risky?

It is just money.

Right now, we have unused cap dollars with less than four games remaining.

Might as well use it. That is the first rule with a budget anyways, if you are under, don't save it unless you are sure it carries over. In the case of the cap, it doesn't. Financially, I don't think this is much of a problem. It is insurance. And you almost over pay for it anyways. Even in real life.

Actually most of the time we have safeguards in place to carry cap money over. I'm sure Adam could give more precise details, but players are given LTBE incentives (Which most can't earn...except maybe Romo :)), which when they are not reached, that cap money is folded over into 2007.

I will sit back and watch this signing, hopefully BP is still hot with the dice.

he's too old to be the "final peice of the puzzle"

He is only 31, and he was a playmaker for the Bears when they were bad, and probably the best player on the 9ers for 3 years in a row.

If he is as healthy as he claims he is, this could be what puts our defense over the top.

I am just saying that players that are 31 still have a ton to offer. 31 is far from ancient in the NFL.

Some players like Rod Woodson converted to safety to prolong their careers. I dont think 31 is old at all.

Same to you, have a good night.

Until I see him on the field, I will reserve making further judgement.

right now this is a signing that just makes me go 'meh', if Parrish is his '04 form, then 'horray', if not, 'oh well'

Parcells is big on trust and experience. He doesn't like playing Davis or Watkins IMO but has no choice.

If Parrish can play at 90% of his old self then he's probably safer to have back there. Hopefully that would give the Cowboys more options with blitzing and hopefully give up less big plays and make some turnovers.

It wouldn't take long for Parcells to see what he has left in the tank.
