News: Parsons: 'College football is a joke'

Look, I'm not against players having some kind of compensation, but I think this is getting ridiculous when players start demanding $4 million dollars. There's a huge difference between fair compensation and straight-up cash grabs. And when money gets too loud, the love for the game, team loyalty, and school pride will get drowned out. It shifts the whole vibe of college football, which used to be more about heart than checks.

The system needs some kind of structure. Otherwise, it becomes a bidding war and turns college sports into a mini-NFL, where the highest bidder wins the best roster. Like with anything, balance is key. In my opinion though, no college kid needs to be getting $4 million to play. That kind of money warps priorities real quick.

While I don't think college football is a joke, I don't get excited about watching games. To me, it's like getting all worked up about watching minor league baseball.

It is a joke, but it's what we have right now.

Some of the charms of college football back then were the mostly regional nature of the leagues and players and the rarity of big-name transfers.

That's long gone, and we all adapt to what is left.

I still watch it

Is he even any good I don't even know who this guy is never heard of him?
That would mean that you might follow college football, but probably not all that closely ....like most people

He was the starting QB on one of the top teams in the country

However, he's not as good as he (or his dad) thinks he is, though

I think you just said what I said. The colleges cannot directly distribute NIL money.
Yeah sure, wink wink.

So, the school controls the money determining who gets it and how much........ but it's not the "schools money." It's a sham just like college amateurism was a sham.

Well yeah but since my last post I did a little research. Meh.

Actually, I do follow college football, when it pertains to my Texas Longhorns, that means the old big 12 sometimes I keep an eye on it teams were playing and news about Heisman races and of course the SEC, that's the only thing that's important right now... And yes I realized Tennessee's in the sec but since we didn't play them and we're new to the conference I completely spaced on what they were doing... Yeah I'm not sure how I missed them being ranked number seven but it completely went over my head.

I'm not going to know who a Tennessee quarterback was because he's not a superstar perse but sure he had nice season,

I don't care if he's a top guy or not I looked at his stats he looks okay it's about how I look at a guy like Quinn Ewers guys overrated, I watched him play, Hes Supposed to be a Heisman candidate, I never saw it..

So, when you watch a player up close you see his warts I didn't watch this kid but apparently even though he was on a good team had solid numbers does not make him special... I actually see the dude's frame like his height and weight he needs to put on some meat if I even ever think he's going to make it to the NFL.. 6'6 215 is bean pole LOL I mean Justin Herbert is 6 foot 6 He weighs 236. I'm surprised he runs as much as he does being that skinny... But the nfl will probably snap him like a twig. :)).

Could be an interesting season in Longhorn land.

My daughter will be a senior there this Fall. Hope to take in a game!

It will be hard to live up to last season because everyone is expecting more now not just because of where we ended last year but because apparently the heir apparent, Manning hype will now be at the forefront. He definitely will have some critics out there you know the Quinn Ewers fan club because everybody was hard on Ewers last year. Including me like I said I think Quinn was a solid system quarterback but he is not a superstar in any way shape or form. So sure To stay on topic that's why he reminds me of the Tennessee quarterback... But yeah, the expectations from Manning will be the size of TX.. LOL

I will add that Congress MUST do something or it will get permanently worse. The NCAA leadership is made up of corrupt bureaucrats. They need to be dismantled. Not that Congress is better but something needs to change.

The other thing that kills me is the sports gambling. Unrelenting promotion during games with disclaimers about gambling addictions. Then people freak out when athletes get involved. How is anyone surprised by that???

So much stupidity going on.
The way sports gambling has become so normalized and how every media person and athlete is seemingly willing to pimp it is truly gross. There are so many lives - especially young men - being destroyed by how easy it is to place bets now. It's no different than vaping, opioids, etc. Just another way to suck money out of people without any regard for the enormous damage it does.

The upper 4-5 teams in the SEC are so good that a slight dropoff could mean 3-4 more losses....depending on schedule

I can agree with that but I don't see the drop-off coming from the offense I see it from the defense you gotta hope they restock all that.. Because in my opinion the offense is probably going to be better I just can't see them getting two of their starting running backs back and have all that depth along with Manning's ability to run the football as well as allegedly pass it better and we'll see I just think he's better than Quinn Ewers and again it's just a gut feeling so the only thing I'm seeing is the offensive line didn't we lose two starters off that line?

But the way Sark restocks his talent with the same type of dudes, He has a system and he seemed to do really well getting the right players year in and year out that duplicate the guys who left so they could just keep the system moving forward....

I mean if you look it over the years when the Xavier Worthy left you had bond and golden look like the same player they just keep on plugging it but the running backs we were missing three running backs last year two of them were starters and your backup and you're playing your freshman and your other players I just don't see the drop off coming from the offense if anything it might be better.....

Yeah, I'm not predicting anything. Just pointing out that the margin of error is slimer than in the ACC, for example

And BTW, kids are even getting paid in high school, not just under the table. This "building character" that Micah is talking about is a cultural thing. It's now just legal.

Totally agree. The fabric of society is really being yanked at with all this garbage. There is zero benefit to any of it.

Doing a 'great job' of ignoring someone you've responded to multiple times. You don't know the meaning of the word ignore.
Are you dense? I'm not ignoring you, I came after you. You low-road personally attacked Parsons, got called on it, then wrote 3 book chapters claiming you "struck a nerve" while denying you were mad (as you continually respond), lol.
