Pasqualoni will make a difference this year

My preseason "greatest new-impact guys" this year are new/old coach Paul Pasqualoni and Dez.

The guy has coached about all positions at multiple stops. Besides Campo, now Pasqualoni is a super-experienced and wise guy that can have real input as Wade tries to run the defense and the team at the same time.

The story from DC.com yesterday isn't on the Daily Zone (yet) so I thought I'd post the link for those interested (at bottom) ... but first some things interesting from that story, in bold below...

"Defensive end Marcus Spears said Pasqualoni's passionate persona is a switch from seasons past.

'Our coach last year, Todd, was a little more laid back,' Spears said. 'He was more letting the players figure it out.'

Spears said Pasqualoni's intense demeanor emits his enthusiasm for the game and his determination to have everyone on the defensive line succeed to full potential.

'He's probably a cut from the old school coaching,' Spears said. 'He's got a real attention to detail. You kind of take on that role as a player when you've got a coach like that.'

Because he was a good DC two years with not too much to work with at Miami. Maybe the scapegoat at Miami last year. (With Ireland as GM there, I can believe it. Appreciate Jeff's work here a lot, but we've got serious questions about his judgment.)

Pasqualoni's defense went from 20 to 24.5 points a game given up, which took him from No. 9 in the league in 2008 to like No. 25 in 2009. Ireland was pushing for rookies in the secondary and they didn't pan out. Also injuries everywhere. I read Pas a guy who doesn't like to do surprising things, so teams were prepared for his schemes, and Pas got panned for his lack of imagination ...

If that ain't a Parcells blueprint, I don't know what is.

Haven't some on this board said the same thing about Red Jesus ... he's predictable? Yet, the offense was one of the tops last year. The failures, though, came in red zone scoring.

I don't see where it makes any difference. He is a d-line coach, not the DC. He won't be calling the defense. I think his intensity and attention to detail will help the d-line.

If he makes any difference it will be in the performance of guys like Bowen and Hatcher on the DLine. We dont have to worry about Ratliff. Spears is still playing for a contract so we'll continue to get his best. Hatcher and Bowen have been good at times but not very consistent. Maybe's Pasqoloni's different approach will do those two some good.

Bingo!!!

That was a pretty cool story last year when Grantham took the job at Georgia, Wade told Jerry before practice that he'd love to have Paul back to replace him, and by the time practice was over Jerry had it done.
