Except Cousins is pretty strong against the blitz. You play coverage and hope we get some pressure on him with the front four. It's not rocket science. We are a bend don't break defense, even moreso without Claiborne and Church.

I wouldn't worry about Cousins. The Cowboys have been his worst nightmare and he has always choked against us. The streak continues tomorrow.

Career
83-128, 956 yds, 6 TD, 2 int

2016
28-46, 364 yds, 1 TD 1 int - L

2015
22-31, 219 yds 1 TD 0 int - L
12-15, 176 yds 3 YD 0 int - W

2013
21-36, 197 yds 1 TD, 1 int - L

He generally has been average overall against Dallas. Not the reason for losing in most cases.

By the way, some time ago there was a thread where I said I wasn't sold on Claiborne. I'm sold now.

Why? He still can't stay healthy. And he's had just a short glimmer in his entire career. No way do I extend him for a long term future. Go find someone young in the draft. There will be plenty.

I'd grab him on the cheap. I'm thinking he has to come cheap too. What has he proved to get a huge contract? If some other team wants to pay him a ton of money, fine, but I'm hoping since Dallas was the team that always gave him his next chance he will want to stick around.

we basically bring 4 every play though. Its hard to beat 5 blockers with 4 rushers but that is what we keep on doing.

Hopefully lawrence can take advantage of a backup tackle playing on a short week tomorrow.

Unfortunately that backup tackle looked good against Clay Matthews last week.

we got to him last game and I bet we get to him at least twice tomorrow.

Mike Fisher is hinting that Scandrick is not healthy. He looked banged up in the game sunday so if he doesnt make it through the game tomorrow mcfadden is going to get us beat.
Scandrick missed at least 1 snap and was holding his back when going to the sideline.

CLE - 7.5 yards/attempt
PIT - 8.9 yards/attempt
BALT - 7.7 yards/attempt
0 interceptions in that span.

On the season, those teams are averaging...
CLE - 6.7 yards/attempt
PIT -7.0 yards/attempt
BALT - 6.4 yards/attempt

If you like DVOA, here's our pass defense by week:

NYG 9.90%
WAS -8.50%
CHI 31.90%
SF 58.30%
CIN 18.80%
GB -6.00%
BYE 0.00%
PHI 5.50%
CLE 29.90%
PIT 70.10%
BAL 56.90%

What changed after the PHI game? We lost Claiborne and Church.

Updating this now that Church is back:
CLE - 7.5 yards/attempt
PIT - 8.9 yards/attempt
BALT - 7.7 yards/attempt
WAS - 8.5
MIN - 5.4
0 interceptions in that span.

On the season, those teams are averaging...
CLE - 6.7
PIT -7.2
BALT - 6.5
WAS - 8.1
MIN - 6.8

(DVOA for past games has changed due to opponent adjustments):
DVOA
1 NYG 11.10%
2 WAS -9.90%
3 CHI 29.80%
4 SF 57.70%
5 CIN 19.00%
6 GB -12.20%
7 BYE 0.00%
8 PHI 7.60%
9 CLE 27.80%
10 PIT 68.30%
11 BAL 49.50%
12 WAS 36.30%
13 MIN 6.10%

It's only one game with just Church back, but we got the DVOA into single digits again, and we held the Vikings to lower than their season average yards per attempt.

BTW, the Minnesota game was the worst DVOA the offense has had all year.

Updating again, but going to keep it to DVOA only for the historical look:

Held the Giants to 5.4 net yards per pass attempt, and they are averaging 6.3 on the season.

Week Opponent Def Pass DVOA
1 NYG 14.70%
2 WAS -11.70%
3 CHI 28.60%
4 SF 59.90%
5 CIN 21.30%
6 GB -15.60%
7 BYE 0.00%
8 PHI 6.30%
9 CLE 29.60%
10 PIT 71.80%
11 BAL 47.90%
12 WAS 35.20%
13 MIN 2.30%
14 NYG -45.90%

By far the best pass defense of the year vs. NYG. The 4 games we didn't have Church were atrocious, and since he's been back we've been doing very well in pass defense overall (no, we haven't played any good pass offenses with him back-- but we also did badly against BAL and CLE who are both bad).

I think it might be time to ask if JJ Wilcox is *that* bad at pass coverage when starting at Safety.
