Pass rush improves without Soft Taco

Taco is a good player. Not a great one, but a good one. He can still get better too. David Moore was saying in the pregame that Taco does a lot of little things that really help this D. I like it when we have all of these guys healthy and rotating in there.
I’ve always forgot where they were picked though most judge a player by where they were picked
I’ve also felt the 3 yr rule is a good judge of players
Right now the jury is out on taco but at this point he’s not a player who has earned a second contract
He has another season to do so
He may very well do the little things that help the team but not enough impact so far to give a second contract to

Taco was destined to be a strong side DE from day one. Many of us called it. He's a great rotational guy, but he'll never be an elite pass rusher, or even an above average one.

94 is a heck of a player when he actually gets a reasonable amount of snaps. And yes, he's better than Taco against the run too. 94 often tackles RB's from behind which is evidence of his elite speed. As long as 94 stays healthy and drug free he should be the full time starter there and play as many snaps as Lawrence.
And this shouldn’t be a surprise. RG was a top 5 pick that dropped due to off the field issues. Taco was a late 1st because of talent.

He was a late first rounder, pick 28. He has performed “adequately” I would say given that. He did show marked improvement from yr 1 to yr 2 and is now a legitimate starting level DE. But he’s not a star yet that’s for sure. He’s got 2.5 seasons left on his rookie contract so there’s plenty of time to see what he can become. Maybe he stalls out and turns out to be a bust. Who knows.

Taco needs to remain on the bench or wherever he was. The line and the defense is much better off without him.
Taco is not a bad player, he’s solid and young. The issue is we drafted him in the first round. If he was a 2nd or 3rd round pick, most people’s opinion would be much different.

Taco is pedestrian. He should have been a 5th round project.

Taco is going to play T.Crawford role once Crawford leaves the team. Good, not great, utility guy who can play inside and outside.

So we win, and against the defending Superbowl champs. Then start a thread bashing a player that didn't even play???
This ain't even the off season, we play the Falcons 5 days from now.

It wouldnt change a thing. The guy isnt good. Plain and simple. For any round. All you have to do is watch him play.

Right now, he's a rotational player that allows Crawford to play inside. Crawford had to spend a lot of time at right end Sunday night because Charlton is injured. Charlton also had to spend more time as a pass rusher while Gregory was out. So we need all of our guys.

Frankly, I'm happy we have Charlton to rotate with Gregory. I don't view it much differently than Armstrong rotating with Lawrence. They give them plays off and keep Crawford inside where he's a better fit rotating with Collins, Woods and Reid/Ross (which will eventually be Irving).

Now, obviously, I'd prefer that Charlton turn out to be as good as Lawrence, but I don't really care who steps up and provides that kind of pass rush as long as it is provided. There's room for rotational players on this roster, too.

Taco is a liability in the run and simply gets pushed around like a rag doll on passing downs. I have actually never seen a guy as bad as Taco at DE in a long time.

Tank wasn't the player he is now 9 games into his 2nd year...

You people really crack me up with this fantasy. Its like so many lazy Taco apologists have used it or heard it so much that they think its actually true.

Lawrence was injured for most of his rookie season. He came back in his 2nd year and had 8 sacks and 55 tackles that year and played all 16 games. The kid was definitely waaaaay better then the hapless Soft Taco and definitely showed promise early on. Then after a great 2nd year campaign, which really was his rookie year, he had suspension AND injury issues in this 3rd year. Hence the fantasy that the kid never did anything until his 4th year. Total and complete nonsense.

The attitude about Taco reminds me of our collective reaction to Greg Ellis. Ellis was selected 8th overall. He was a solid player. Made the pro bowl once. But only had double digit sacks once. He was solid if unremarkable. People were down on him because of where he was drafted. Taco was drafted MUCH later, but still a first round choice. He had 3 sacks his first year and is competing with far more DE competition that Ellis was (if I remember correctly).

Taco is turning into a solid, if unremarkable player. You need guys like him on the team. Yeah, it sucks that our first rounder isn't looking like a stud at this point. But, I still think we need to let him play out the end of his third year before all the bust votes are counted.
