Getting back to the title of this thread then, the question is did those teams run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run? When were the passes called relative to to running plays in the same game, quarter, or even same series.
It seems like when both Superbowl teams played their "A" game they passed first. Pittsburgh's offense was anemic in the Superbowl until Rothlisburger's and Randle El's passes to Ward broke the game open. Of course the breakaway run from scrimmage was also huge. The Steelers also set the tone vs. Indianapolis by throwing first. I think there's no question Seattle passes to set up the run regardless of who their receivers are.
Overall, I really like Parcells' dedication to balance, what I'd like to see him take advantage of more are receiving matchups in the redzone, and I think they'll do that with Glenn, Fasano, Owens, Witten, and throw in Barber since he's a better power back than Julius.
