I listened to his conference where he announced the firing of Shanahan. I can't help it, the guy is a great example of what an owner should be.

When asked what he wanted in the next coach he stated that he had to be a 10 in every category. When asked about assistants he said he leaves that to the head coach and that he, QUOTE, "doesn't feel qualified" to make those choices.

Also said he is the guy in charge.

Do you hear that Jerry? You can be the guy in charge and leave football matters to football people.

There's also a huge difference when comparing Jerry Jones to other owners.

He's not a meddling owner; he's the general manager, which is a guy who should be involved (meddling) in every decision about coaching and players.

Now, it's easy to make an argument that Jerry or any other gm should step down and be replaced since out of 32 teams, very few of these so called "football men" seem to be able to put together organizations that get to the Super Bowl. Most teams have what many Dallas fans clamor for, an owner who is in the background with a gm who is a "football man," yet again, very few of those teams get to super bowls either.

Jerry should never be attacked as a meddling owner, imo. I wouldn't trade Jerry Jones for any other owner in the NFL.

Those who want to attack him should continue to attack him as a gm who rebuilt a football team and won 3 super bowls but has lost his way and needs to be replaced.

However, as long as he is the general manager of this football team, he will be and should be front and center on just about every issue, just as most gm's are.

My problem with Jerry has more to do with talking about who should be getting the ball and how often. I think that heled divide this lockerroom.

I know I wouldn't have wanted to hear that if I was the O-coordinator. I wouldn't have wanted to hear that if I was the QB either. And honestly, it felt like the offense bogged down even worse after those things were said. Romo seemed to force more things than ever, and Garrett seemed to dial up plays so predictable that everyone in the world knew which unhappy receiver was going to be getting the ball.

Yeah we need an owner who believes in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, and a coach who can walk on water instead of save the world.

I've got news for you, we don't have a GM either, and haven't except during the days of Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells. Both those guys let Jerry PLAY football man, and say the things he wanted to say, and let him FEEL involved, while they went about making their decisions. I'll say again, Pat Bowlen is a great owner and Jerry Jones is a meddler.

If you listened to the news conference you would have heard that he truly believes that the Denver job (and he was careful to add that he didn't mean it in a bragging way) is considered a choice job and so he expects to get a head coach of the highest quality. What he meant by a 10 in every category is that he isn't going to settle for anything less than the best he can get.

We, on the other hand, with 2 glaring exceptions, have been willing to settle for what most of the league wouldn't have hired.

Groan.

Who when Parcells quit would've been a 10 in every department?

Please don't tell me Norv.

I don't know what coach would be a 10 in every department. Belichick? Who else?

Meh, Bowlen will do like every other GM and hire the man he perceives is the best fit for his team. But the guy won't be a 10 in every department.

I don't think a 10 in every category exists. Even Jimmy Johnson, whom I think to be a hall of fame coach wasn't a 10 in the longevity category. Landry wasn't a 10 in the emotional motivation category (he certainly motivated in other ways.)

I understand what you are saying, and don't disagree with you. But where you and I might differ is that I honestly believe Jerry makes hires that don't just have to do with winning. I believe that Jerry makes hires based on the role that HE wants to play. He was forced, by the embarrassment that it had become, to hire Parcells. I believe that the Wade hire had a LOT to do with Wade's personality and his willingness to give in to Jerry.

We can debate that all day, and probably I'll do better not to even post on this stuff any more. I'm just absolutely tired of what I perceive to be decisions that aren't all about winning football games. I'm tired of what I perceive to be a guy wanting to be in charge who doesn't give proper respect to people who have given their entire life to knowing football at a level he never will.

I fully agree choices were extremely limited two years ago. No question Wade was among the best of what was then available.

But two years later he has lost the team, and we have regressed. There are a wealth of options out there now, including marquee names like Shanahan, or Holmgren and Cohwer if they are willing to talk. This is no longer the last minute fire drill Parcells late exit caused, if Jerry keeps Wade he is willingly keeping an inferior HC in place.
